Once upon a time, nothing was built or made to be thrown away. No, it was repaired. And as money was always tight, many had to do their own repairs which meant they had to know something about what they owned.

One of my Grandfathers was a farmer and he owned several big farm tractors. When something broke, could not haul it into town for a mechanic and mechanics did not come out to farms, so he had to repair it himself.

No, you are not a farmer and even have a bit of money but if you know nothing about the things you own, you are at the mercy of the services community.

What things? Air conditioning, dishwashers, water faucets, your car, windows, doors, eclectic outlets, circuit breakers......we all have long lists.

I am not saying you have to know how to repair everything BUT you should know simple stuff like replacing a filter or what is and what is not proper functioning.

The Internet is a resource. Use it. Have a problem, use the net to look up what could be wrong. Try to understand and maybe even attempt a home repair but at least having some knowledge gives you an edge as an educated consumer when you do have to pay for service or a repair.

Grandfather had 4 sons. Grandfather was a farmer and poor. Hunting for meat was mandatory. In this family, there were traditions associated with hunting either individually or as a group.

I think it important to share these traditions of these men when hunting really was for meat and not sport.

Some traditions are funny, well most are but under it all, there was a united family tradition: hunting.
