Do you ever feel like you don’t deserve to be where you are? Like any moment, someone’s going to find out you’re a fraud?

In this clip, Dr Shade joins Roxie to explain why “imposter syndrome” was never meant to be a syndrome at all. It was first described as a phenomenon: something lots of people experience, not a sign that anything is wrong with you. She also talks about who feels it most and why, the two ways it shows up (holding back vs. overcompensating), and two simple reframes you can use the next time the thought “I don’t deserve this” creeps in.

Dr Shade also shares one of Roxie’s favourite psychology experiments, the Dartmouth “scar study”, which shows how our expectations shape what we notice and, in the end, our reality. As Dr Shade puts it: “We don’t get what we want or what we deserve. We get what we believe.”
