Rick escapes Galactic Federation prison by feeding an interrogating agent a fake origin story loaded with a virus, body-hopping through multiple hosts, and teleporting the Citadel of Ricks into the middle of a Federation stronghold — triggering a collapse of both organizations. Back on Earth, he quietly dissolves the Federation's hold by zeroing out the galactic currency, orchestrates Beth and Jerry's divorce, and reveals to Morty that every step of the last season was deliberate. The post-credits scene shows Birdperson resurrected as a cyborg weapon aimed at Rick.

This episode resets the entire board established at the end of Season 2 and lays out how the show will operate going forward: Rick is always several moves ahead, consequences are real but Rick-proof, and the family dynamic has permanently shifted with Jerry gone. Understanding this premiere means understanding that Rick's stated motivations are almost never his actual ones, and that the show is comfortable treating galactic-scale events as background noise to a joke about a discontinued McDonald's sauce.
