  • Episode 19: "She Left Investment Banking After Missing Out on a Maternity Bonus. Then She Built a Business Around It."
    27 Oct 2026

    Length: 1 hour 4 minutes | Released: October 27, 2026

Sara Dalrymple on leaving investment banking, building a business that teaches women to advocate for themselves, and turning a frustrating experience into a mission.

Sara Dalrymple has spent more than 20 years in sales, from a career in banking to building businesses of her own. Today she's a speaker, mentor and the award winning author of More Sales Please, helping women get better at selling their work, their ideas and themselves.

Like so many women, when Sara had a child, her working life changed forever.

She'd done what ambitious women are told to do. Worked hard. Hit the targets.

    Got onto the leadership programmes.

Kept her head down and assumed the results would speak for themselves.

Then something happened that made her seriously question that entire playbook.

In this conversation, we get into why one conversation changed the trajectory of her life, what Sara has learned about effort and self-advocacy, and why women must never wait for somebody else to notice how brilliant they are.

Those experiences became the foundation of her life's work: making thermal comfort accessible, sustainable and human centered.A former competitive fencing athlete, neurodivergent entrepreneur and unconventional engineer, Florina has spent the last two years building EcothermiQ as a solo founder with no salary, no safety net, and more determination than most investors know what to do with.Despite investor pullouts, a co-founder departure and periods of zero runway, she kept building. Today, EcothermiQ's technology has been lab validated by EURAC Research Institute and is supported through collaborations with UCL researchers and industry partners.Flo believes leadership starts where performative confidence ends, that authenticity is a founder's greatest competitive advantage, and that some of the most powerful businesses are built by people brave enough to trust themselves before the world does.In this episodeTimestamps approximate, from the transcript, confirm against the final edit.01:21: Who Flo is, and the hardware climate solution she's building at EcothermiQ09:19: Why heating and cooling, growing up in energy poverty, and what comfort means to a neurodivergent founder14:26: What's been proven and validated so far23:44: Losing her Co-Founder, becoming a solo founder, and how scared she was33:46: Thirty years of fighting to win, and learning when to press pause instead49:41: Dropping the to-do list, and what changed when she stopped being in constant doing mode58:03: Building sustainably instead of chasing from a place of desperationMentioned in this episodeEcothermiQ (ecothermiq.com): Flo's hardware climate solution, heating, cooling and ventilating buildings without fossil fuelsEURAC Research Institute, who lab validated the core principles of the systemConnect with FloWebsite: ecothermiq.comLinkedIn: Florina MînzatInstagram: @ecothermiqInstagram (personal): @peace.ofhe.artFlo is currently raising a £400k pre-seed angel round for EcothermiQ.
