Set in 1982, the film follows the Platt family—mother Denise (Anne Hathaway), father Greg (Ewan McGregor), and their children Audrey (Maisy Stella) and Brian (Christian Convery)—who are navigating quiet suburban life and underlying marital friction.Their world is upended when a mysterious cosmic temporal anomaly rips their entire suburban neighborhood off the grid and transports it millions of years into the past to the Mesozoic era. Marooned in a prehistoric jungle, the Platts and their neighbors must set aside their personal tensions and fight to survive relentless attacks from deadly apex predators and territorial dinosaurs.

In an effort to shake things up, Angela invites their stylish, charismatic upstairs neighbors—Hawk (Edward Norton) and Piña (Penélope Cruz)—over for a dinner party. As the evening progresses and drinks flow, the visitors reveal their non-monogamous lifestyle and make an adventurous proposal to swap partners for the night. What starts as a tense, awkward comedy of manners quickly forces Joe and Angela to confront their deepest marital frustrations, desires, and honesty with each other.
