Mark Wood is a Polar explorer, expedition leader, professional speaker and educator. After serving in the British Army, and then as a firefighter, he moved into full-time expedition leadership. He was the first person to ski solo and unsupported to both the Geographic North and South Poles consecutively. He has now completed more than 30 major polar and mountain expeditions from the Arctic Circle to Antarctica, the Himalayas and Mount Everest, to Alaska - spanning solo record attempts, guiding TV crews, and large-scale youth education programmes reaching over a million students. His upcoming "Rediscover Expedition” is a series of expeditions in areas of the planet that are becoming climate change hotspots, and he will bring this firsthand experience to students all over the world.

In this episode, Mark takes us inside the mind of an extreme solo explorer. How he deals with fear of the unknown. How he makes critical decisions and then deals with their consequences. And then as an expedition leader, how he checks in with his team and really understands how they are doing.

Mark's openness about the emotional side of exploration, paired with his humor, made for a conversation as human as it is high-performing.
