  • 🎙️ “Are AC and Lights on the Same Circuit? Here’s Why That’s a Problem!”
    Dec 29 2025

🎙️ “Are AC and Lights on the Same Circuit? Here’s Why That’s a Problem!”

This episode explains why an air conditioner and lights should not share the same circuit and how that can cause issues.

It describes how breakers in a panel alternate between two legs (odd slots on one leg, even slots on the other), creating the split 120/240V arrangement that determines which loads share a leg.

As a practical fix, the host suggests checking breaker positions and, when safe and appropriate, flipping or rearranging breakers to move loads onto separate legs to avoid overloads and resolve problems.

    Dec 1 2025

Why Your Lights Dim When the AC Kicks On?

On this episode Kevin Lipps of Lipps Electric and Jim Klauck from Check A Pro explain why lights can dim when an air conditioner starts — a large startup (inrush) current can briefly drop voltage, usually causing a short, mild dim. They discuss when dimming is normal and when it may indicate a deeper electrical issue.

Topics include shared circuits, loose or corroded wiring, aging panels and overloaded service, plus practical solutions like rearranging breakers, wiring repairs, or upgrading the panel/service. The hosts emphasize professional diagnosis and budget-based options.

    Nov 24 2025

🎙️ “Is Your Home a Wiring Time Bomb? What to Check If Your House Is 30+ Years Old.”

If your home is older than 30 years, have the electrical system inspected — and if it hasn’t been rewired, consider doing so. Homes built before the 1980s may still have aluminum wiring, which can be a safety concern.

Even older houses (mid-20th century and earlier) might have knob-and-tube wiring, so get a professional check to determine whether updates or rewiring are needed.

  • When Aluminum Wiring Goes Wrong: What could happen?
    Nov 17 2025

When Aluminum Wiring Goes Wrong: What could happen?

Aluminum wiring was once installed in many homes but later proved to be a mistake when used inside walls. The main problem is that aluminum used for outlets and switches can overheat, creating a fire risk.

By contrast, aluminum utility and service entrance wiring is designed for that purpose and is generally safe. The danger lies specifically with older aluminum conductors running through a home's interior to receptacles and switches.

  • ⚠️ Is Your Home Wiring a Fire Hazard? Why Aluminum Wiring Is Dangerous
    Nov 10 2025

⚠️ Is Your Home Wiring a Fire Hazard? Why Aluminum Wiring Is Dangerous!

Question, do I need to upgrade my wiring? If your home is older than 30 years, have the wiring inspected — aluminum wiring is a known fire risk.

Aluminum expands and contracts, loosens screw connections, and can cause sparking, melting, and potentially fires. I do not recommend keeping any aluminum wiring.

At minimum, rewire the basement and attic; consider a full replacement to ensure safety.

Let’s keep Cincinnati homes safe — one outlet at a time.

  • Why Do My Lights Dim When the AC Kicks On?
    Oct 13 2025

Why Do My Lights Dim When the AC Kicks On?

When your air conditioner kicks on, the compressor draws a large surge of power called inrush current, creating a brief voltage drop that can make lights dim.

This dimming is typically a short-lived nuisance rather than a safety hazard, since it results from the normal startup load of the A/C.
