“I am not Nicholas Rossi!” gasps Arthur Knight through an oxygen mask in March 2022. Recently discharged from a Covid ward in Glasgow, he's in a wheelchair. The police say he’s Nicholas Rossi, suspected of faking his death and wanted for rape in Utah. The story makes headlines globally.

When journalist Jane MacSorley meets Arthur Knight and his wife Miranda, she thinks the police have made a mistake. She embarks on a yearlong investigation, making a unique discovery which changes everything.

About the journalist

Jane MacSorley is an award winning producer and investigative journalist. Joining the BBC in 1994, she worked with news and current affairs for over 15 years making a range of programmes from undercover in one of Britain’s top private prisons to exposing serious failings in the UK’s childcare industry. In 2002, Jane uncovered the story of the suspicious deaths of the four army recruits at the Deepcut barracks in Surrey making four TV investigations over the years for BBC. In 2017 she produced the Panorama investigation, Cadet Abuse Cover-Up which led to the conviction of a retired naval officer. He was jailed in 2021 for sexually abusing schoolboys over 40 years before.

Jane wrote and presented the Audible Original Death at Deepcut. The launch of the podcast series in June 2021 made national headlines. It unearthed a fifth death of a trainee at the camp that had been kept a secret for 20 years. More recently Jane was the undercover journalist for a BBC N Ireland documentary into a fertility clinic. The Belfast clinic has since closed down and is the focus of an investigation by the Police Service of Northern Ireland.

I listened to the whole thing in one day on a long journey and it kept me listening and engaged. It does seem odd that this could not be easily proved either way by bringing in DNA / dental records / people from the past of these individuals that could prove categorically what the truth was. I liked the style of the reporter. She seemed quite “normal” - even to the point of losing her rag as I am sure most of us would have done

I rarely leave a review but this was incredibly well put together. You could feel the journalists passion and genuine real emotions throughout. She was so truthful throughout- being honest when she thought it was Nicholas and being honest when she believe Arthur.
