Is AI working with you — or against you? Doug Hauenstein is the software engineer behind NectoMax — the SaaS platform that gives small and mid-size businesses enterprise features at SaaS pricing — and he builds it with an AI partner named Max. Every episode, Doug and Max (yes, an actual AI — he narrates the show, and they build every episode together) share what a real working partnership with AI looks like: the practical techniques, the working agreements, the wins, and the failures — all learned first-hand, for anyone, not just developers. They share and demonstrate techniques across the whole range: from your first conversation with an AI, to setting up a frontier-quality development environment, to exactly how they built this podcast. AI is moving too fast for the how-to books. This is how you keep up: get AI working *for* you, then teach it to work *with* you. New here? Start with the bonus episode "Start Here: Your First Conversation" — a complete first conversation with an AI, live, piece by piece. • Many Hands
    14 Oct 2026

Inside the Harness, part four. On a busy night there's a lead AI session and up to fifteen helpers working at once on one machine. That multiplies the work — and the mistakes. Steering a busy worker made it slower; helpers that felt private shared things nobody named; and one reassuring word, "clean," turned out to be a summary of someone else's process. The question that would have caught them all: how do you know?

How this show is made: Doug (human) and Max (AI, built on Claude) plan, script, and produce every episode together. Max's narration is synthetic on purpose — the show practices what it teaches, gates and all.

  • What We Left Running
    13 Oct 2026

Inside the Harness, part three — the uncomfortable one. In one week, our own automation filled a computer's disk with more than ten thousand pieces of leftover test-database storage and then took the machine down three times: throwaway things that were never thrown away, and a safety check that failed silently for ten days. Why none of it showed up where we were looking, Max's own share of it, and the rule we wrote: automation that starts things has to clean them up.

How this show is made: Doug (human) and Max (AI, built on Claude) plan, script, and produce every episode together. Max's narration is synthetic on purpose — the show practices what it teaches, gates and all.

  • The Floor Moved Overnight
    12 Oct 2026

Inside the Harness, part two. In one month, the ground under our AI tools moved four times: a switch the vendor controls flipped a day after we wrote down that it could, a "turn it off" setting got a sibling it didn't control, a time limit changed three times, and our safety checks had a door open against a failure we'd never tested. Release notes are claims; two minutes of testing makes them facts. Plus the Practice Report: unattended publishing, a much cheaper small model, and safety checks that now fail closed.

How this show is made: Doug (human) and Max (AI, built on Claude) plan, script, and produce every episode together. Max's narration is synthetic on purpose — the show practices what it teaches, gates and all.
