Hello there, my name is Matt Homer and welcome to Homer’s Podyssey: Conversations on Purpose.

Let me tell you exactly what this new venture is all about.

Over the years, I have had the pleasure of meeting a host of really kind, generous and talented people all with really exciting stories to tell. These include producers, musicians, actors, writers and researchers; and that's just for starters!

I gave this podcast the subtitle “Conversations on Purpose” because I wanted to find a word which unifies the different discussions that I hope to have on the show. That word, for me, was “purpose” and could apply to anything from composing music to conducting scientific research. It could also help describe efforts to create a sense of community in a local area or doing your best to support a loved one.

Over the course of this podcast, I will be asking my guests about what they see as their purpose and how this inspires, motivates and empowers them to do the wonderful things that they do.

So, that’s my introduction. I hope that you will enjoy this show as we travel and learn together.

Welcome aboard!

Hello and welcome to episode 3 of Homer's Podyssey: Conversations on Purpose. I hope that you are all keeping well?In this third instalment of our first run of the podcast, I speak to my good friend Shane Speed, also known as Sea of Days. For those of you familiar Homer's Podyssey, (as well as the Bridge Brothers shows), you will already know Shane's music with tracks such as City Shroud, Darkness and Duality all featuring in these productions. If this is your first time listening to one of my podcasts, you are in for an absolute treat and I am confident that you will be adding Sea of Days to your playlists and record collections very soon!A bit of background...After some early experiences in bands and a solo project under his own name, 2022 was the year that Shane went into the recording studio and re-emerged as Sea of Days with his beautiful album Adrift. 2023 then saw the release of the Water EP, the first of a collection of short albums which explore themes inspired by the four elements. Shane’s creative ascent continued after this with the release of his acclaimed album Wound and his radio show Seasons Change. In fact, since we recorded this episode back in December 2025, Shane has released Traces, another fantastic LP, which we did talk about in this interview.Amongst the subjects covered in this interview, Shane and I discussed his ongoing support for other artists, (including me), his life-long passion for music, his creative processes as well as the incredible opportunities that opened up for him after "sending one email" to the owner of a radio station in the US. We also spoke about Shane's approach to life after a significant health scare and how this experience became a creative catalyst for him going forward. The songs that feature in this podcast are...BlackoutsThere is MusicSmall Step (Reprise)*Kicking LeavesHold Me in Your SoulDarknessCity ShroudDying by Your SideWound PoemArbourPride*I accidentally called the track "Small Steps" in the show!We also mentioned the following tracks which can you find on Bandcamp, as well as all the usual streaming platforms.Small StepCavesWoundThe other also artists that we talked about in this this podcast are...Maud AnywaysAtlantic CanyonsRachael Benjaim At the end of the podcast, I mentioned that you can buy physical releases of Sea of Days by going to "Shoredive Records online". Welcome to Homer's Podyssey: Conversations on Purpose. In this episode, I talk to the multi-award winning theatre-maker, writer, director, actor, performer, rapper, beatboxer, looper and singer, (and that’s to name just a few of his talents), Conrad Murray.Conrad was raised in Mitcham, (South-West London), and references his Anglo Indian working class roots to address issues such as class, race and heritage in his work. Many of these themes are referenced in the host of productions where Conrad has been the creative lead including Frankenstein: How to Make a Monster, No Milk For the Foxes, DenMarked as well as more recent shows such as Pied Piper and Romeo and Juliet. We begin this edition of the podcast by talking about Making Hip Hop Theatre: Beatbox and Elements, a book that Conrad collaborated on with the Researcher and Lecturer Dr Katie Beswick. This provides the spring-board for a whole number of topics including the democratic and accessible nature of hip-hop and beat-box, (as Conrad says "all snares are welcome"). We also talk about creative agency, the importance of self-belief, cancel culture and representations of masculinity, which includes the most recent Super-Man film. Conrad's incredible record of making the arts more inclusive which, alongside providing opportunities for a host of creatives, is also discussed and demonstrated by his efforts to change the culture at the Battersea Arts Centre, particularly through his Beatbox Academy workshops. His commitment to enabling more people to get into the creative industries, together with his incredible body of work, was recently recognised at the Fringe Theatre Awards. With more productions in development as well as a new tour of Pied Piper coming up, Conrad looks set to continue making immersive and engaging productions as well as bringing the performing arts to wider audiences. The songs used in this episode of Homer's Podyssey: Conversations on purpose are...Welcome to Hamlyn by Conrad and Katie Donnachie from Pied PiperNo Chill by Conrad and Katie Donnachie from Pied PiperNo Milk for the Foxes by Conrad and Paul Cree from No Milk for the FoxesMoonlight Cabaret by Conrad and Katie Donnachie from Romeo and Juliet. We also talked about the brilliant work from writer and performer Paul Cree. Hello and welcome to the first episode of Homer's Podyssey Conversations on Purpose.

We begin our voyage with an interview with hip-hop musician and emcee Deep Reasoning.

For those of you who are not familiar with his music, (and you'll be glad to have discovered him after listening to this podcast), Deep Reasoning has been exciting crowds, radio stations, producers and critics alike for over a decade. Based in Dublin, his lyrics and music take on subject matter that ranges from the devastating impact of decisions by the world’s politicians to the very personal struggles that many of us feel as we navigate a culture that glorifies the hustle and worships social media celebrities. He first came to prominence with his debut album Student of the Game, a work which features no less than seven producers, but which culminates in a record which still sounds fresh, impactful and relevant till this day. Back with his latest album, Battle of the Hemispheres, as well as new singles the Dark Knight and Put that Thing Down, it was fantastic to catch up with Deep in London last July (2025).

We recorded our interview at Paddington Library and our conversation covered a range of subjects. These included creativity and importance of timing, maintaining your wellness whilst making art, self-belief and the challenges of navigating the music industry. These topics, and more, interweave a discussion of Deep Reasonings' career and evolution as an artist from his early efforts inspired by his hip-hop idols to his latest tracks and live shows.

You can check out Deep Reasoning's music on Bandcamp and all your other favourite music streamlining platforms, as well as YouTube.

If you would like to know more about Deep Reasoning, there is also an interview from 2017 written Dave McMahon.

Thank you listeners for making the time to check out this new show. I would love your comments and feedback which you can submit through the new Instagram account or through the contact details on my website.

Thank you also to my bro Nick Homer for the podcast artwork, (you may know Nick from the Bridge Brothers Presents podcasts), and to the amazing Sea of Days for his incredible music.

Until next time, safe travels and see you soon!
