Gilbert House Fellowship #500: Isaiah 19
    1 Nov 2026
We've been taught that idols are nothing more than carved blocks of wood or stone. That happens not to be the case. Again this week, we encounter the Hebrew word used by Isaiah translated to "idols,” ellilim, which scholar Christopher B. Hays showed in a recent academic paper derives from the Akkadian name of the Mesopotamian father-god, Ellil. This is fascinating, because scholar William Gallagher noted in a paper published about 30 years ago that Ellil is the origin of the name translated "Lucifer,” Helel, in Isaiah 14:12. In other words, rather than lifeless wood or stone, the "idols" of Isaiah are actually minions (demons?) of the entity we identify as Shemihazah, the fallen Watcher who led the rebellion of Genesis 6:1–4. Isaiah's oracle concerning Egypt prophesies the coming of a "fierce king,” probably the Assyrian king Esarhaddon, who conquered Egypt in the year 671 BC. But as with many of the Bible's prophecies, there is a "not yet" fulfillment, and the chapter concludes with the Lord's declaration that a day would come when Egypt ("My people") and Assyria (“the work of My hands") would make peace, worship God, with a highway between the two and Israel as the center of the nations. • Gilbert House Fellowship #499: 1 Enoch 70–71

    Gilbert House Fellowship #499: 1 Enoch 70–71
    25 Oct 2026
The Book of 1 Enoch is not in the Bible, and for good reason. This week, we encounter two possible reasons why. In chapter 71, Enoch declares that he saw “the sons of the holy angels.” However, it's not translated that way in every version available to us. The older translations, like the R. H. Charles rendering, translates that phrase, "the holy sons of God." Obviously, angels cannot procreate, as Jesus said (Matt. 22:30), so if the more modern translation accurately represents the original text, this contradicts scripture and thus excludes 1 Enoch from the Bible. We run into the same problem a few verses later, where Enoch is either shown the Son of Man or declared to be the Son of Man. The oldest translation, by Richard Laurence in 1821, opted for the latter reading. If this is correct, that would obviously contradict Jesus’ application of the title to himself. It's for reasons like this, and others we've pointed out over the months that we've studied 1 Enoch, that we do not believe it should be in the Bible. However, the fact that there are New Testament doctrines that first appear 1 Enoch makes it worth your while to read and study it. We’re asking for your help to Build Bunker Better! • Gilbert House Fellowship #498: Isaiah 18

Gilbert House Fellowship #498: Isaiah 18
    18 Oct 2026
IS THIS a prophecy of the United States hiding in plain sight? Isaiah 18 is a mysterious chapter that seems to describe a future attack on Jerusalem by a faraway tall, clean-shaven people, feared far and wide, whose land is divided by rivers. If that doesn't describe the United States, what does? However, it's not as simple as that. The verse describing the tall, clean-shaven people is admittedly speculative—not just by us, but by the translators themselves. We take this to mean—speculatively, of course—that there is a future day coming when the United States joins in an attack on Jerusalem. This, of course, is consistent with the prophecies of Armageddon in Ezekiel 38–39 and Revelation 19. As we said during our study, we consider this one "obfuscated until obvious." We’re asking for your help to Build Bunker Better! We’ve decided to remain in our home, but we need certain upgrades to make it safe for Derek given his mobility limitations compounded by COPD.
