    What a joyful day with my old friend James Lee Stanley! After celebrating last night’s election (we were both all in blue, without getting the memo), the hope, all the firsts, and the justice to be served, James sang Easy to See—the perfect soundtrack about a certain human, ending with “Enough is enough somebody’s rung the bell,” as if written today! The perfect victory anthem. We caught up on James’remarkable recovery after a fall from his roof, his cancer surgery, the apple cider vinegar cure-all, then traveled through his long illustrious career packed with stories: opening a club as a teenager, and having to borrow tables and chairs to do so, meeting Peter Tork, the start of their collaboration and friendship that would last a lifetime. Likewise, Stephen Bishop… making music with them, and with Timothy Schmit of the Eagles and Robby Krieger and John Densmore of the Doors… his fantastic All Wood series and its origin, whilst releasing 37 albums of his own. James treated us to Moonlight Drive from All Wood and Doors, upon request, his Plenty of Reason, America’s a Gun, and then tore down the interweb pod with Wake the Flock Up, which could not have been more apropos, and sounds on playback a lot like its intended double meaning. James closed with It’s a Shame, a new song written for his wife, Evaline. James and I have shared many memories over the past decade and a half. It was an easy, fun, sweet, and joyful conversation—with a whole lot of right-on-the-money music. Absolutely perfect for the day after!     It just doesn’t get better than this. I knew, and have known since I was 10, that Peter Noone is easy on the eyes and the ears. Meeting him recently after his show at The Canyon Club in LA, I also knew he was funny, crazy talented, nice to a fault, and charismatic as hell. What I didn’t know was that Mr. Herman’s Hermits, a name chosen for hysterical reasons (he ‘spains), would regale us with story after story, many previously untold (I listened to a load of his interviews today), before tonight, one more precious than the next, each told with wild enthusiasm and almost reckless, but not quite, abandon. We laughed like hell for the entire hour and forty minutes. Reading the comments on Facebook, which we couldn’t see during the broadcast, so did the Live audience. There were a few technical glitches before, during, and it turns out, after, but so what! This show is a gem, a diamond in its glory, nothing rough about it… Well, the tech stuff, but who cares? It’s like having the best slice of pizza and quibbling over a little dripped cheese. Peter, with his 60 million records sold, 7 gold albums, and 14 gold records, has met and has known everybody who’s anybody, and I do mean everybody, and he shares juicy tales from the front, back, and side about so many of them. Friends with the Beatles, Peter’s remembrances of John and Paul are priceless. Likewise, Elvis, Bowie, Mick Jagger, Eric Burdon, Leslie Gore, Graham Nash & The Hollies, The Cavern, meeting his wife at a Hendrix Concert and marrying her on his 21st birthday because… well, I let him tell you, his family foibles, the drinking, more drinking, getting sober, advice on drugging from Keith Richards, hysterical, and the creme de la creme with Richard McArthur Park Harris, worth the price of admission. There was some singing here and there, including a bissel, There’s a Kind of Hush. Speaking of bissel, Peter’s got more Yiddish than I do. The story of his nuptials with his French, Jewish bride in a Roman Catholic church is pure Peter. From the man who gave us, I’m Into Something Good, Mrs. Brown, You’ve Got A Lovely Daughter, I’m Henry VIII, I Am, Can’t You Hear My Heartbeat, Listen People, No Milk Today, we got a treasure trove of bliss. We laughed, reminisced, got personal, got political, and barely scratched the surface of her extraordinary career! Donna shared a project she's been formulating for years, now written. A perfect vehicle for her, it’s getting terrific feedback. Donna’s looking for the right person to help bring it to life. I have no doubt it’ll happen. We talked about the world we're living in, the importance of paying attention, doing our homework, being accountable, and showing up. And then we went back. Way back. To the little Brooklyn girl and her beloved grandfather who helped light the spark: tap shoes, talent shows, a little rule-breaking, and a whole lot of moxie. The American Academy of Dramatic Arts, studying her craft, doing theatre, and then the movie that changed everything. Saturday Night Fever! The stories! John Travolta, the dancing, the music, the friendships, the challenges, the moments that made movie history, and the extraordinary kindness and care behind some of its most difficult scenes. Things I never knew that will so enrich my next viewing. We talked about what it was like to suddenly become famous, and the whirlwind that followed. Lunch with Neil Simon and Herb Ross, the film offer, and the incomparable Garry Marshall, and the sitcom he pitched that had Donna say “No” to Neil Simon! Angie! Robert Hays and Doris Roberts, Debralee Scott… the challenge, the fun, the relationships that endured! So much more than what we saw on the screen. And that's where we stopped! At Angie! An hour and a half in, and we'd barely gotten started! There's something so special about sitting down with someone you love, forgetting the clock, and just talking. Donna Pescow is funny, thoughtful, passionate, talented, and downright delightful. How blessed that this fan has become a friend. I bet everyone who meets her feels that way. Clearly, there's a Part Two in our future. And a girls’ lunch! I adore this woman!
