Dystopedia explores the worlds that warn us, from films and books to almost everything else in between.

Each episode breaks down how dystopian stories reflect the systems, fears and power structures shaping our own world, and somehow we still manage to have a laugh along the way.

  • Idiocracy Was Supposed to Be a Joke
    Oct 21 2026

What happens when society stops thinking for itself?

In this episode of Dystopedia, we revisit Mike Judge’s 2006 sci-fi comedy Idiocracy — a film that has gone from overlooked box-office flop to one of the internet’s favourite examples of dystopian prophecy.

We explore how a world of mindless entertainment, corporate dominance, endless advertising and collapsing institutions feels increasingly familiar. Is Idiocracy really about people getting dumber, or is it a warning about what happens when critical thinking is discouraged and convenience becomes king?

We also discuss the film’s controversial opening montage, the debate over eugenics and class stereotypes, the power of advertisers, consumerism, social media, AI and the unsettling possibility that the future isn't quite as fictional as we once thought.

Are we living in Idiocracy, or have we completely missed the point?

  • Tomorrow Never Dies: James Bond vs. the Media Machine
    Oct 7 2026

In this episode of Dystopedia, we dive into Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), Pierce Brosnan’s second James Bond film, and explore the surprisingly relevant themes hiding beneath its '90s action spectacle.

We discuss Elliot Carver, media manipulation, propaganda, disinformation and the power of controlling information — and ask whether Tomorrow Never Dies predicted the modern media landscape.

Plus, we look at Bond's post-Cold War identity, the film's absurd action, and why this underrated Bond movie may be more relevant than ever.

  • Resident Evil 2 (1998): The Survival Horror Classic That Still Holds Up
    Sep 23 2026

In this episode of Dystopedia, we return to Raccoon City and revisit one of the most influential survival horror games ever made: Resident Evil 2 (1998).

We explore why the original remains so terrifying, from its fixed camera angles, limited resources and eerie pre-rendered backgrounds to its unforgettable atmosphere and sound design.

We also dive into the cancelled Resident Evil 1.5 prototype, the Raccoon City outbreak, Umbrella Corporation, Leon and Claire, and how the original compares to the modern remake.

Was Resident Evil 2 really as scary as we remember?
