Discover Curing Machine Chatter and Shaft MisalignmentA grinding machine leaves spiral marks on the part and screams with high-pitched chatter while the pump next to it runs hot with a 1× and 2× vibration signature. The spiral spacing tells you the exact speed of the shaking part. The 1× spike means the rotor is unbalanced; the 2× spike means the shafts are misaligned so the coupling bends twice per revolution. Chatter itself is different: the tool cuts a wave, then hits that same wave on the next pass and feeds energy back into the vibration until it grows. The same floor vibration also reaches the operator’s hands and can shut off blood flow in the fingers.
