The 2027 Ford F-150 is fighting to protect its pickup-truck sales crown as the Ram HEMI returns and an all-new Chevrolet Silverado approaches. Ford’s answer includes a larger standard engine, wider V8 availability, a less expensive F-150 Raptor, BlueCruise hands-free towing and a new Carhartt special edition.

Fred Staab and Les Jackson break down Ford’s strategy and ask whether these changes are enough to keep the F-150 ahead of Ram and Chevrolet.

The new 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 becomes the F-150’s base engine with 325 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. The naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8, producing 400 horsepower and 410 pound-feet, becomes available across more of the lineup. Ford is also expanding BlueCruise with hands-free trailer towing and offering buyers a more affordable route into the high-performance Raptor.
