    TSSM - BRASS CONSTRUCTION
    “Brass on the Block”

And today’s topic: Brass Construction! Bringing you Brass Vibes into the spotlight.
Good evening! I’m Gail Nobles on the Cat Bear. Before I get started, I want to say Brass Construction is definitely on the block.

Fitzroy’s Soul Survivors Magazine also features Brass Construction this month, giving us another reason to celebrate the band’s place in music history. Make sure you visit the current issue at thesoulsurvivorsmagazine.co.uk.

This is Gail Nobles, sharing a little music, a little history, and a whole lot of soul on Cat Bear!
Brass Construction was an American funk group formed in Brooklyn, New York, United States, in 1969. The true formation year that’s when they truly became an active band on the scene. They were originally known as Dynamic Soul, and went on to record a string of hit singles and albums through 1985.

They scored two US Billboard Hot 100 entries in 1976, the most successful being “Movin’,” which hit No. 14.

What happened to the bands like Brass Construction? What happened to the real voices?
They are a band you can really learn from to play music. The old-school cats are your teachers. Hear me out today on the Cat Bear.

They really knew how to play the instruments and put the music together. I have said this before. It wasn’t all about a drum machine. They played real bass and drums.

I love the trumpets, trombones, and saxophones that I hear. I miss hearing that kind of music today.

Thank you for listening to the Cat Bear.

  • Aaliyah - Midnight Fashion (9.24.2026)

    Podcast Title: Aaliyah Midnight Fashion
    Story by: Gail Nobles
    Song: Walking into My Style

Aaliyah was a girl of fashion. Her style became an important part of her image, from the clothes she wore to the way she brought fashion into her music and public appearances.

According to sources, Aaliyah and her close friend Kidada Jones planned to launch a Japanese-inspired clothing and lifestyle brand called DALIPOP. The planned line was expected to include apparel, sunglasses, makeup, jewelry, bags, and other accessories. Trademark documents were officially filed on July 23, 2001, through Dana I Enterprises, Inc.

Aaliyah was also building relationships within the fashion world, including her partnership with Tommy Hilfiger. Her career was continuing to expand into different areas, and fashion was becoming another part of her creative identity.

Sadly, the DALIPOP plans never came through as planned. Aaliyah died in a plane crash on August 25, 2001, only about a month after the trademark filing.

Yet her fashion influence continued. The clothes and looks associated with Aaliyah are still recognized and discussed, while the fashion ideas she was developing before her death remain part of the story of her career.

So this is Midnight Fashion — an original creative interpretation inspired by the atmosphere of fashion, style, and the ideas surrounding Aaliyah’s unfinished fashion journey.

And now, capturing that midnight fashion feeling through an original song by Gail Nobles: Walking Into My Style.”

I'm Gail Nobles. Thank you for listening to the Princess R&B podcast.
