'An amazing accomplishment... a simple-to-understand précis of your midlife as a cyclist – you won't want to put it down.' – Phil Liggett, TV cycling commentator

——

Renowned cycling biomechanics pioneer, Phil Cavell, explores the growing trend of middle-aged and older cyclists seeking to achieve high-level performance.

Using contributions from leading coaches, ex-professionals and pro-team doctors, he produces the ultimate manifesto for mature riders who want to stay healthy, avoid injury – and maximise their achievement levels.

Time's arrow traditionally plots an incremental path into declining strength and speed for all of us. But we are different to every other generation of cyclists in human history. An ever-growing number of us are determined to scale the highest peaks of elite physical fitness into middle-age and beyond. Can the emerging medical and scientific research help us achieve the holy triumvirate of speed and health with age?

The Midlife Cyclist offers a gold standard road-map for the mature cyclist who aims to train, perform and even race at the highest possible level.

Absolutely brilliant audiobook, packed with insightful information gained over a long and varied career. I’ve changed the way I think about my training completely. I’m 55 and hope to continue riding the rest of my life.

Having now known Phil for 30 years it was a true delight to discover his book on my long drive to Scotland.

Having spoken with him at length about the sport we both live so much this book captivates his prospective and insights and the insights truest get one thinking about how I personally should approach my midlife cycling.

Having been a Uber fan of the sport all my life and been able to race a little, the information in this book I can understand and easily put into my daily life.

I’ll be following up with Phil and Julian at Cyclefit for updates to me and my bikes.

A book all midlife cyclists need.

Sorry, I made the mistake of doing a review after only a few chapters, this is a mistake as it grew on me and I thoroughly enjoyed it, I also warmed to the authors to e and deliver on the audio book found it very listenable and enlightening. Great listen, but persevere you’ll love it 👍

Don’t judge a book after only a few chapters

Phil knows his stuff. His book is a generous sharing of his knowledge and experience. Great too that he doesn't shy away from challenging accepted ideas, ideas that don't have evidence but prevail just because of time. Nice job Phil.

Wise, honest and practical
