一方、２０１８年のノーベル医学生理学賞を京都大高等研究院の本庶佑特別教授と米テキサス大のジェームズ・アリソン教授の２氏に授与すると発表した。本庶氏の研究は、小野薬品工業のがん免疫薬「オプジーボ」に応用され、２０１７年にグローバル売上高約６５００億円を稼ぎ出した大型薬だ。だが、同じく「抗ＰＤ-１抗体」と呼ばれる治療薬では、メルクの「キイトルーダ」の売上高は約４３００億円、メルクの猛追で首位を伺う勢いとともに小野薬品には薬価の壁も高い。
製薬大手でも新薬の開発・臨床試験から発売までには、多額の開発費と時間が必要だ。おのずとＭ＆Ａが盛んになる。日本の大手製薬の現状をリポートし“タケダショック”が新たな再編の呼び水になるのか探っていく。
