London, September 1941. For plucky, determined Emmy Lake, working at Woman’s Friend magazine has become everything she dreamed, especially since the departure of the magazine’s formidable editor, Henrietta Bird. Now Emmy really can get on and Do Her Bit.

When the Ministry of Information calls on Woman’s Friend to help recruit female supporters to the war effort, Emmy is thrilled, but soon she and best friend Bunty meet a young woman who shows them the real challenges that women war workers face. Suddenly Emmy must tackle a life-changing dilemma: should she carry out her duty or stand by her friends?

Just like Dear Mrs Bird, this is totally jolly hockey sticks but with such substance. The characters show immense resilience and caring and I love the determination, strength and overall good natured positivity.

I did enjoy this book but thought the first book was more interesting. The narrator was excellent and brought the characters to life. I do hope there's a third book in this series

Good

As I did with Dear Mrs Bird, I have run through a gamut of emotions. It is such a fantastic book, filled with sadness, happiness, excitement and joy. I do hope AJ Pearce will be writing another book in the series.

Wonderful!

This is a continuation of the delightful Dear Mrs Bird which continues to recreate life in WW2 from the perspective of a young woman journalist. It is a lovely mixture of war story, social commentary and romance. The dialogue and manners reflect the times beautifully. It finishes in Christmas 1942, so there MUST be a third book on the way - I do hope so!

Lovely sequel!
