Summary

Lisa Jackson is a surprising cheerleader for the joys of running. Formerly a committed fitness-phobe, she became a marathon runner at 31 and ran her first 56-mile ultramarathon at the age of 41. Unlike many runners, Lisa's not afraid to finish last. In fact, she's now done so in 25 of the 100-plus marathons she's completed so far.

Your Pace or Mine? isn't just Lisa's story. It's also that of the extraordinary people she’s met along the way - tutu-clad fun runners, octogenarians, and 250-mile ultrarunners - whose tales of loss and laughter are sure to inspire you just as much as they've inspired her.

This audiobook is for anyone who longs to experience the sense of connection and achievement that running has to offer, whether you're a nervous novice or a seasoned marathoner dreaming of doing an ultra.

An account of the triumph of tenacity over a lack of talent, Your Pace or Mine? is proof that running really isn't about the time you do, but the time you have!

Fun, honest and insightful

I loved hearing the stories from all different types of runners. Having other people read these out worked really well in breaking them up from Lisa’s words.

A few things I didn’t like: using a word that is offensive to the trans community, lots of talk about weight loss (with numbers which could be triggering for people with eating disorders or a history of them), describing running as therapy (it’s a great adjunct but it’s not a replacement for professional mental health treatment) and the focus on always have to be positive (toxic positivity is actually detrimental for wellbeing).

Didn't like this one.

Loved her previous book but this nah just didn't like it, I love running just no intention of running in or participating in a marathon or races, I run just for the love of running but this is all about racing etc. Not for me

Helped me through my first half marathon training

Loved this. Lisa narrates her own book with genuine joy in running. Listened as I trained for my own half marathon and it easily (ish!) whiled away the miles. Would recommend.

Inspirational!

I loved this book - wasn't sure I would at the start, but Lisa's story and experiences are hard to resist. Her attitude to running and races is absolutely brilliant: do it for your sense of achievement, have fun and enjoy it - don't worry about what anybody else thinks.

Inspirational, yet an emotional rollercoaster

This book helped me get my running back on track. Sometimes I’d choke on my drink because Lisa would say something hilarious and sometimes I’d choke because something was so sad. I could resonate with most of Lisa’s experiences. I only wish I had half of her mental strength to complete 100 marathons! Amazing achievement, your Mum would be proud x

Brilliant warm and funny running book

I’ve read umpteen running books and this is one of my favourites. Packed full of short tales from lots different contributors, as well as Lisa’s own story, it brings tears, laughter and lots of motivation. I’ll always be at the back of the pack and I love that Lisa celebrates us.

Emotional and inspirational

Just what I needed at the start of my running journey. At 56 I felt I would never be a runner but now, I will start and see what happens! I have been last in a half marathon but someone has to…
