Summary

To them, he was an experiment. To her, he was family.

The first time I saw him, I had no idea he was created in a lab.

I'd been living on the streets for around eight months before I lost count. It wasn't easy, but it was still preferable to what I had to deal with at home. In all that time, unable to trust anyone, I had been alone (I knew from experience that people always failed you). Then one day, while out searching for food, I stumbled upon this mangy dog being attacked. It wasn't a big deal to help him, but then he ended up saving my life which is when I realized there was something special about him: Muttface wasn't a normal dog - he was crazy intelligent. I'm talking Mensa levels. And he wasn't an accident either, having recently escaped from a mysterious lab.

We were just getting to know each other when things took a bloody turn.

The vet, Sully, a troubled guy who had recently lost his wife to cancer, did what he could and I guess that would've been the end of our story if we hadn't been attacked by a gang of mercenaries who destroyed Sully's clinic and seemed intent on doing the same to us.

So now here we were, the three of us. On the run across the country against a powerful enemy. Who were they and what did they want with us?

Through the danger, terror, and pain, one thing was becoming clear to me: I had finally found the family I had always wanted and I would do anything to keep them safe...

Even if it meant risking my own life.

An exciting adventure with genuine warmth

Listening to this audiobook took me back to the movies I loved as a kid, though Chase is certainly no Goonie; this is darker, more mature stuff. All the characters have experienced genuine trauma, and whilst on the run they find comfort in companionship. Who better to teach the power of friendship than a dog. This would make a great book to listen to on a road trip, hopefully there’ll be more to come in the series.

Touching Tale

This is the first in the Chase Ryder series and is surprisingly well coordinated in terms of character development, emotional suspense and reader appeal.
Bandit is exceptionally realistic and Chase is the typical street smart teen with a chip on her shoulder and an untrusting attitude to match.
More for the burgeoning YA market i feel but can easily be enjoyed by adults a there is a lot of depth to the interactions between the 3 main characters.
Narration from Heather Masters in one word is masterful ,with good range for the male characters and she suits the Chase character well. I expect to hear more from this narrator.
Only spoil i think is at some small points the story becomes a bit stretched as to how they evade capture especially towards the end.
I wouldnt discount this series due to this as its not far away from a 4.5 such is the authors skill in binging the attention of the listener.
This audio was gifted to me and i chose to leave an honest review and as such is my own opinion.

Really enjoyed listening to this

Wanted is about a girl living on the streets and a dog that finds her and the trouble that follows all because of the dog.
It’s a story about finding friendship, family and reconnecting..

Jo Ho wrote a really good book which I loved reading and I thought the Audible would be a good listen also, it did not disappoint.
Heather Masters did a really great job narrating this book, there was only a subtle difference between the voices but you could definitely tell who was who.
A definite must listen.

A wonderful book for all ages. Highly recommend!

Any additional comments?

I'm quite a bit older than the usual YA audience but I found this audiobook just delightful! Wonderful characters that you fall in love with and a story that had me at the edge of my seat. Chase, Sully and Bandit tore at my heart and I found myself desperately hoping that they would find the happy ending they so deserved. This was a very original story about a relationship I don't often see and I loved every second of it. The narration was superb too. I've never heard of this author before but I will be reading her other work for sure.

A great story, awesomely narrated!

This book really has it all - love, loss, hate, friendship, family, action, adventure, fight scenes, calm bits. It really keeps you hooked from beginning, through all the twists and turns, to the very end. And, if you listen to the audiobook like I did, you also get an awesome narrator, who really brings the story to life, even having recognisably different voices for every different characters! I absolutely loved this book, and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who likes adventure stories, from young adults upwards.
NB I received a complimentary copy of this book, but I always give an HONEST review based wholly on my own opinions

Loved This!

Animal lovers of all ages will just love this wonderful story and be rooting for Bandit. I was captivated from beginning to end and completely wowed by this tale of survival, love and family. Sometimes real family is the one you create, not the one you are born into. Although I am much older than the target audience, the characters tugged at my heartstrings and I fell in love with Bandit the dog. The suspense kept me riveted to this terrific story and I enjoyed the tender moments as well. The ending was very satisfying. The narration was excellent and definitely one of the highlights. Her voice as 14 year old Chase was very believable and I loved the emotion that she brought to the characters. This was a terrific listen and I would highly recommend Wanted.

Great Teen Adventure

Chase is a homeless teen who is saved by an extraordinary dog she names Bandit. Not only does he help keep her from danger but also provides food for this starving girl and a loving companionship that she craves.

The story starts off quick and continues with the same energy throughout. She takes Bandit to a vet (Sully) after being injured and soon finds out that Bandit has escaped from a medical research institution. Sully, a depressed widower, assumes responsibility and takes the trio on the run.

The story line is imaginative and a little predictable but beautiful just the same. The dialogue is on a teen or pre-teen level so just perfect for the right audience. I had to give it a four in lieu of a five rating even though I am not the intended audience.

Heather did a great job narrating. I was provided this audiobook for my honest review.

Fantastic Book, Narration Makes it Even Better

The narration by Heather Masters makes this fantastic book even better. She adds an extra dimension of life to Jo Ho's already-cinematic and emotional writing, fully embodying the character of Chase. You really feel as if you are in Chase's shoes, and feel every bit of fear, terror, and pain that she does. Absolutely brilliant and a must-listen by all young adult and thriller fans, and of course, all you dog lovers out there. If you're looking for a great story, fantastic writing with engaging voice delivery, you couldn't do much better than this. I've loved both reading the book and experiencing the story again in a new way via this audiobook. Highly, highly recommend.

Loved it!

Loved this book! I initially read it as an ebook, then received an audio book in exchange for an honest review. as if the story itself couldn't get any better, they chose a great narrator to read it. I love that the book is about a dog (it had me tearing up at times) and felt the narrator did well with separating different character voices.

Amazing

Another great suspense story in the Chase Ryder series that is impossible to only listen to once. The narrator was very clear, and made you feel as if you were a part of the story.

Even more remarkable as an audio book

Heather Masters narration of this exciting story is really something special. She reads with an amazing emotional versatility and wonderful wry sense of humor, which I had completely missed when I read this first as a book. I reveled in Chase’s personality with the subtle inflections in her voice and marveled at the deep voice and unsympathetic hardness of the professional mercenary.

It was as if I was watching a film. Quite a few times I was so engrossed in the story that I reached for the iPad to adjust the picture or reached for my glasses because I couldn’t see it quite clearly enough, and then laughed, realizing I was listening to a an audiobook.

A girl and her dog and mad science and mercenaries

"I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review."

This was a wonderful story about a girl, Chase, who befriends a stray dog only to find out this is no ordinary dog. She quickly learns this dog is super intelligent (for a dog) and they are set upon by mercenaries determined to retrieve the dog.

A wonderful story with many twists and turns as Chase is constantly on the run throughout the whole book. The dialog is never stale and the story never drags. Narrator Heather Masters does a great job differentiating between characters and portrays them with vibrant emotions. This story is great for the family (under 10 may find it confusing) but even adults will enjoy it.

Engaging

I really enjoyed this book! I was a little surprised that there are almost 150 chapters, but each is very sort, only a few minutes and this actually made the book seem to fly by.

Bandit had to be my stand out character in this book. I was amazed by the personality it was possible to put into a dog when you add super intelligence. Chase and Sully were also really likeable and it was impossible to not want them to succeed.

I enjoyed the various twists that come along and the whole book had my attention, I finished the book in one session.

The character voices were really good and the narrator did a great job conveying the emotions of the characters and the overall story.

I received a free copy of this book from the author and/or narrator and/or publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

Kept me wondering what was next. Great listen

There are so many good points to this book.

First the narrator was awesome at the right moment. I would listen to her again.

The plot and characters very well developed and understood. I love how Chase had to learn to trust to save Bandit. This is a story of people helping people to help a dog bred. It had so many twists and turns that sometimes I did find myself having to rewind to make sure I heard right. I was impressed with how it really hit on some points.

I would recommend this book especially to young adults, many life lessons and thinking.
It made me think about things as well.

Looking forward to another listen
