Publisher's Summary

What would you do if you spotted a man following a young woman, but no-one else could see him?

Like most sane people, student Alex Webber thought he was hallucinating - perhaps he'd consumed something bad at the party he'd been attending that night, or he was severely overtired.

But when he sees the mysterious man following Natalie again the very next day, he can no longer disbelieve his eyes.

Although she denies the man's existence, Alex sees her walking with him down a road in his neighborhood he's never seen before - and can't help but follow. After a bizarre, but strangely short journey, he finds himself standing before a towering iron gate wreathed in gray ivy, behind which looms a decrepit old mansion named Spellshadow Manor.

Spellshadow, with its beautiful yet sinisterly decorated hallways, ever-changing outdoor scenery, and very unusual residents...Alex will quickly learn it is a place that is as wondrous as it is deadly.

Especially for a normal person like him.

What if you found yourself recruited to an institute of magic, only to discover you really couldn't do magic?

What if your enrollment there was all one big, terrible mistake?

If you were at Spellshadow, you'd keep it a secret. A deep, dark, deadly secret...

Because Spellshadow's elusive head is hiding a secret of his own - one that Alex soon realizes he and Natalie must uncover at all costs if either of them wishes to leave the Manor alive...and before it's too late.

    "Underdeveloped...."

I did not enjoy this audiobook. The characters were under developed as was the storyline. There were parts of the plot that were just not explained and it was all just a bit underwhelming. I will not be reading any other books in the series.

    "very slow with no conclusion"

No where near like Harry Potter. I feel like I've not really learnt anything more about the story. major events happen and there are no consequences for them. confusing

    "No go on this one"

I could not get over the person narrating the book. It was horrible. I actually stopped listening. How do I get my money back? This is nothing against Bella Forrest as she is a great author.

    "NOT HARRY POTTER"

I was fooled by the hype on Facebook. This is nothing like Harry Potter. I only finished it hoping it would have a good ending. The end leaves you hanging and I don't care enough to find out what happens in the sequels.

    "Amateurish"

The writing is amateurish, with the author telling us, not showing us. Some of the similes used we're ridiculous. Overall, a ridiculous story. Don't waste your time.

"Not bad, but it's no Harry Potter"

The only thing close to the Harry Potter series is the shifting hallways and the minuscule amount of magic. It has a bit of Grimm the television series but even then only vaguely. I listened to the end as that's the only way on can really judge a book but honestly there was not much to hold on to. Unlike HP that has a climactic scene then closes one mystery but still holds to one overall mystery, there is no climax and one is left with "I suffered through all that and for what?" The story has great potential but in the probable rush to publish I believe someone forgot to write something in order to build up the audience.
Hopefully book two will explain some things but I don't hold out much hope. The narrator was quite good and he was the only reason I could keep listening.

Captivating start. Middle drags some. Ending hooks you to continue to book 2. I'm intrigued.

"Very good, new take on "magical academy" genre."

This book was a little slow taking off but eventually hits its stride and keeps you interested which is impressive when your characters are confined to one place the whole time. I overall enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next!

"I laughed when the narrator said the title...."

I laughed out loud when the narrator said the title at the beginning of the book. I'm like that point I hadn't heard it out loud. It's as ridiculous and cliche as the writing that followed. The premise is almost interesting, if it weren't bogged down by the unrealistic characters actions and developments. I judge a book on whether or not I want to listen to it outside the car. I found myself more enthralled with traffic than the ongoings at Spellshadow Manor.
