Publisher's Summary

Dad asked me if I wanted to see more of the Compound. I didn't. We would have to wait fifteen years before it would be safe to go outside. Which left more than enough time to see the rest of the Compound.

Our new world. A world I would soon hate.

Eli and his family have lived in the Compound for six years. The world they knew is gone. Eli's father built the Compound to keep them safe. Now, they can't get out.

He won't let them.

"The audience will feel the pressure closing in on them as they, like the characters, race through hairpin turns in the plot toward a breathless climax." (Publishers Weekly)

    "Full of suspense"

I rarely find myself rushing back to a book, but this one was short enough that I could get through it in two days commuting to work. I found myself getting out the door just a little bit faster this morning so I could finish it, but had to sneak in the ending at work!

I enjoyed this as an adult, but it would be good for teens as well. The main character is intriguing and leads the listener through a well told story.

5 stars for the story, 4 stars for the narration as it was a bit dead-pan.

    "Messed up."

Bought this because we were reading it in school, and it's nice to hear it as well as read it. Let me just say, this book takes messed up and brings it to its own whole new level. That is coming from someone who really enjoyed The Hunger Games. I'm appalled that our school would have us read it. If you want to know why it's so messed up you can keep reading for spoilers.

    SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT.

The dad is holding the family captive and he's making the mother have kids for the family to get to know but then force them to eat. It is sick.

    END OF SPOILERS.

All in all it is well written if you can get passed the grotesque parts of the plot. I did enjoy how relatable Eli is, and how it all ends. I do not fail to see the brilliance embedded in the work. I just found it particularly messed up and hard to get past.

"It kept me up all night - couldn't stop listening!"

I'm always looking for a book that will keep me up all night, something that I devour, and can't stop listening to.

I probably should have picked a night that I wasn't incredibly sleep deprived to start this one. A friend recommended it to me, and since I was having trouble picking out a book, I just got it and started listening.

    Wow!

The pacing is perfect. Never a dull moment, even when nothing super crazy is happening. The twists and turns were predictable at some points, and not at all in others. Absolutely worth a listen!

    "its not bad just"

it isnt bad, but to come up with "fallout" type genre, I wasnt too pleased to find out its a bit missleading. I was hopeing there would be a Fallout New Vegas or Fallout 3 type topic, but not at all. good book just not exactly fallout NV like

It was good and had a good second half, but it was kind of slow up until the 100 page area.

    The end (cliff-hanger)

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

This would make an interesting movie.

    Any additional comments?

It was a great story considering that the setting really never changes. Very creative.
