Summary

The astonishing, beautiful new story from the best-selling and Costa short-listed author of Time Travelling with a Hamster

There are stories about people who want to live forever.

This is not one of those stories.

This is a story about someone who wants to stop....

Alfie Monk is like any other nearly teenage boy - except he's 1,000 years old and can remember the last Viking invasion of England.

Obviously no-one believes him.

So when everything Alfie knows and loves is destroyed in a fire and the modern world comes crashing in, Alfie embarks on a mission to find friendship, acceptance and a different way to live...which means finding a way to make sure he will eventually die.

Great Book

Loved this book, especially as I live in the North East of England and was familiar with the different places mentioned. I also liked the historical aspects of it and felt it would bring history alive for a child. I thought both narrators were excellent and they made youu feel that you were there with them. I loved the humour, poignancy and emotion and would recommend it to children and adults alike.

the 1,000 year old boy

I love this book because it was very clear to hear and the story was touching. I even found myself crying along with it at times. I am 9 and I would recommend it to people around 8 to 12. I knew what was going on at every moment and overall it was just AMAZING!!!

An imaginative idea

I loved listening to this book. It’s a great game idea to intertwine history and fiction. It is aimed at pre teens but i think it’s accessible to a wider age range through to adults who want an easy read/ listen. Thanks

Very intriguing

I am 11 and I was gripped by this plot as it is about a boy who is my age, but no one believes he is 1000 years old. It was an interesting concept.

ROXY NEEDS A SEQUEL

I love this story so much! The narrators bring the already vibrant characters to life and Ross Welford didn’t skimp on any of the characters. Honestly would 100% recommend, the story is definitely novel but it was a nice change from what you usually get. Most importantly I loved the Roxy Minto. She definitely was a highlight for me and I really wish there was a sequel *hint hint* that delved deeper into her character! Overall great book go listen to it!
