Minalan gave up a promising career as a professional warmage to live the quiet life of a village spellmonger in the remote mountain valley of Boval. It was a peaceful, beautiful little fief, far from the dangerous feudal petty squabbles of the Five Duchies, on the world of Callidore. There were cows. Lots of cows. And cheese. For six months things went well: He found a quaint little shop, he befriended the local lord, the village folk loved him, he found a sharp young apprentice to help out, and, best yet, he met a comely young widow with the prettiest eyes.

Set largely in London, the Scarlet City, the centre of medieval England, the Scarlet City trilogy is a thrilling portrait of the age and the people who made it so rich, colourful and extraordinary.

From New York Times bestselling author Cinda Williams Chima, this is a thrilling story of the unfathomable costs of war, the allure of dark magic, and two principled and conflicted characters drawn together despite everything they stand to lose.

Across enemy lines in Arden, young rising star Captain Halston Matelon is being sent on ever more dangerous assignments. Between the terrifying rumors of witches and wolfish warriors to the north and his cruel king at home, Hal is caught in an impossible game of life and death.

Great continuation of the story. Chima is an excellent author & has an exciting conglomeration of characters. Excellent new characters to love. A new Hero & Heroine to love. A new group of Mages to learn about. New villians to hate. Only bad part is that I have to wait another year for more of the atory & two years to the ending. Cinda please write faster LOL

If you could sum up Shadowcaster in three words, what would they be?
So F**king Amazing.
What other book might you compare Shadowcaster to and why?
None. Cant really think of any like it.
What about Kim Mai Guest’s performance did you like?
Wonderful as always!
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
"But thats not all!" That would be funny but the serious one would be "As one war ends another starts"
Any additional comments?
Halston Matelon on my favorite character in this one. And a little disappointed Adrian wasnt in this book at all, but Jenna was.
loved the story line, character building and the crossover from the first book in the series line can't wait for book 3!!!!!
There are so many wonderful stories happening all in this short book. It makes them all feel too short and incomplete. I hope the next book is longer and starts pulling all the loose threads from each story together. I can not wait for the next book in the series.
I listened to the Demon King Series and then this series, which introduces the next generation of characters. The first book dealt with Adam, the son of the Grey Wolf Queen, and Jena, a mage marked girl; who is being hunted by the King of Arden. The book ends with a climax. You expect the next book to pick up from there. Instead, it introduces a whole new set of characters. What happened to Jena is finally addressed in the second part of the book, but we never find out what happened to Adam. I also found the first 1/2 of this book to be too wordy and lacking the action of the books that preceded it. I almost gave up on Shadow Caster but I am glad I didn't. The second half of the book was fantastic. I recommend that you read this book because of its importance in the series, and also because this is one of the best fantasy series (when you include Demon King books) I have ever read.
As always i have really connected with the characters and cant wait to see the next chapter in thier story
loved it. wish to hear more. felt it was not yet fonished. will look for the next book asap
I love the Seven Realms. If you havn't heard the first four books, start there. It will be worth the journey.
I loved the Shadow Realm books and cheered for Cuffs Alistair and Rebecca Morley. I also enjoyed Firecaster and seeing the next generation. I kept waiting for more connection with the previous novel and more explanation of the mage mark. It seemed a little forced. And just setting up for the next book.
