Publisher's Summary

Culter Fuller came back into my life on the day my mother died, as if losing my mother wasn't bad enough.

We hated each other since childhood. Well, I hated him, and I thought it was mutual. He had a very different story.

When I moved to my dad's house to finish my last semester of high school, we went from bitter enemies to...something else. He was suddenly everywhere, occupying my space, determined to pull me into his life, filling me with thoughts I knew were wrong.

I knew that soon we would cross a line that should never be crossed.

I knew crossing that line could have very serious consequences; because Culter Fuller wasn't just any irresistible boy, Culter Fuller was my stepbrother.

But, I was always very bad at making the right choices.

    ".Taboo YA Romance laid bare"

Waw the phrase "It's complicated "was created for these guys: Culter and Cassie .The Synopsis given is full so I do not want to further rehearse the story which was exciting and action packed, though fairly short in length. As always, the narration by Maureen Hoff was impeccable, clear, well paced with just the right dramatic emphasis and clear voicings for the individual characters. Her reading most definitely enhances the experience exponentially .It's very much a a taboo topic .This story though if listened to to those who object on principle could melt their hearts to the topic because their relationship developed before our eyes and it was as pure a love as Snow White and Prince Charming.I wanted to wrap Cassie up in a blanket and keep her safe but Culter did that for me.He is the kind of guy I think a Majority of females would want in their lives forever. In the book we see how they overcome adversity and its beautiful. This is my first listen/read by Rita and I have to say this book was something of a gem. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher. As always this is my honest opinion.

    Story
    "Complex, sweet, emotional YA romance"

Culter and Cassie's romance is filled with all the usual young adult angst. They are step siblings but their relationship is so much more complex. It is coloured with shared childhood memories (differently interpreted by each of them) and the a whole slew of newer experiences. Culter re-enters Cassie's life after a long break when her mother's dies. The older versions of themselves face their past, present and the questions about the future together.

This story is very emotional. The challenges of family life coupled with the loss of a beloved parent along with the general experiences of being on the cusp of adulthood add layers of depth to the plot. I enjoyed the development of Cassie and Culter's romance. To be honest, it is hard not to have a little crush on Cutler
who projects a wonderful supportive and protective warmth for his newly displaced step-sister and, as it turns out, long time love.

Maureen Hoff's narration matches this genre. She brings the story and characters alive, placing the reader smack dab in the middle of the action.

    Any additional comments?

A sweet, romantic story. This is a book that teens and young adults will certainly enjoy. I think I was expecting more drama and conflict involving the adults' reactions to Cassie's romantic relationship with her step brother but the story concentrated more on the build up to it along with the trials and tribulations of fitting in to a new school and making new friends.I do recommend it for older teens only due to the prolific use of the 'f' word and the mature situations these high school students find themselves in.I voluntarily reviewed a copy gifted to me.

    "Making bad choices"
What was one of the most memorable moments of Making Bad Choices?

The story was good and because of the unconventional relationships it was what some would call taboo. Culter and Cassie weren't blood related and overall it didn't distract me from the storyline.

    "Great YA/Teen Romance!"

This story sucked me in right from the start. There were some really sad moments in the beginning and it felt real and heart wrenching. The characters were well developed and the story flowed well. There were a few surprises and some difficult moments.

The narrador did a great job bringing the story to life. She was able to put a lot of emotion into her narration. Excellent job narrating this book.

I really liked Cassie & Cutler. Their romance developed slow and sweet. It had a lot of depth and it was not superficial or uncertain. Their feelings were deep and strong.

Rita is a great author and I have enjoyed several of her books. This one is no exception. It is very well written and captivating. I'm looking forward to her next book.

    "I really enjoyed this."

first off the characters.... I love each and every one of them. They were so well developed.
This is an awesome young adult story. I thought I really bonded with the characters.
I love the little twist that was thrown in there as well.
I get this is kind of taboo subject, but honestly I didn't find their romance that bad? ( What you listened you'll find out why I thought that. )

I adored Cassie, and I just wanted to give her a hug. I also thought her aunt Daisy was very entertaining

    "Great Romance"

This well written story quickly pulls you in and you soon become captivated by both the characters and the storyline. The development of Cassie and Cutlers relationship is slow, sensual and has a beauty to it that you don't often find in YA romances. The convoluted family relationships are realistic and heart wrenching, and the taboo of Cutler being Cassie's stepbrother adds complexity, uncertainty and a hint of daring to the story. The narrator suited Cassie to a tee, she captured the feel of a teen, the sorrow of loosing a parent and the breath holding feel of forbidden love. This is an enjoyable love story containing excitement, angst, romance and some surprises. It is different to the norm and is thoroughly enjoyable

"Teen Romance - Not inappropriate, just unusual"

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. I enjoyed this book quite a bit although I don't generally listen to YA/Teen books.
The narration started out pretty rough - breaths were audible and pacing was all over the place. Additionally, each chapter sounded like it was recorded in a different place which could be jarring. The narrator did seem to find her pace and improve throughout the book, but I almost had to stop the book before it was even underway.
One of the parts I liked the most was the well fleshed-out characters outside of just Cassie and Coulter but also their large group of friends and the amount of camaraderie between them - especially Tyler. I also appreciated that the book was true to the YA audience and basically 'kept it clean' throughout most of the book.
Overall, not the type of book I would spend one of my own credits on, but it was enjoyable to read something from the YA genre for a change of pace.

    "Enjoyed this book"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I enjoyed this book- this is one of those "taboo" subjects. She's too young, he is too old, but they have fight feelings for each other. Over all I enjoyed the narration, there were some spots that got a little wired, like the sound was off. Not sure if it was the audio or something else.

    "Too many clichés..."

I am all for this type of forbidden reads entailing step siblings but this time around I could not get into the story. I have made several attempts in hopes that it was just a slow start but sadly nothing. The listen became just background noise and because I avoid leaving a book as DNF I continued on in hopes that the finished product will redeem itself.

In this listen we have step siblings Cassie Michaels and Culter Fuller. It could be that the the story was predictable, it could be that I was not feeling the love-hate relationship from Culter and Cassie or it could have been that the characters (main & surrounding) actions did not appeal to me. It had too many clichés. I felt like it was lacking some parts &/or at times were all over the place.

The narrator, Maureen Hoff did an ok job on her part; however, the narration of the story was a bit too much mainly because some parts sounded whining due to the personality of the characters.

Do not get me wrong the storyline had promised for a younger audience and being that I usually do not read YA novels as often, I took a chance on a this forbidden genre in the YA category. It also dealt with different issues that the youth faces today that will open your eyes of awareness.

"Interesting Story - Mixed Feelings on the Narrator"
    Any additional comments?

I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom. I found the story to be very interesting and managed to hold my attention. It's an interesting take on the Falling in Love with your Stepbrother trope along with some other tropes mixed in. It almost reminded me of a Romeo and Juliet story-line with forbidden love without the suicide pact. The sound quality of the narrator's performance and recording gave me mixed feelings about continuing or not. The narrator does a good job with her performance, but the quality of the recording sound amateurish from time to time and sounds like they are in a tunnel or underwater. Luckily the story held my interest enough to continue listening and finishing the story, which I fully enjoyed. I feel authors or producers of audiobooks need to care more about what they are delivering to their readers/listeners and need to have some beta testing done before releasing to avoid these frustrations by the consumers. Other listeners may not stick it through to the end.

    "Enjoyable YA Romance"
    Any additional comments?

Making Bad Choices was an interesting and enjoyable listen. Cassie has had a lot of turmoil in her life, especially her mother's death. When she is reunited with her stepbrother Culter, she expects the same Culter that she hated so much when she was younger. She's surprised to kind a much kinder and thoughtful version of him and wonders if he's only being nice because her mother just passed. She is uprooted from her home in L.A. and moves to Colorado, where Culter lives. Suddenly the two of them are together constantly - at home and at school. A "taboo" romance eventually ensues.

There were a lot of family dynamics at work in Making Bad Choices, which added depth to the story. The narration was well done but she sounded like she was out of breath in the beginning of the book. It was much better after that. I liked Cassie and Culter's story and would recommend this.
