Summary

Thousands of copies sold, over a million pages read. Fans love the supernaturals of the Elemental Origins series.

They say if you tell a lie long enough, you'll eventually believe it, but Akiko will never forget who she really is.

Akiko Susumu is not what she seems. Her life as a normal teen living in a coastal Canadian town is a complete sham. The old man she lives with is not her grandfather, he's her captor. And Akiko isn't a teen. In fact, she isn't even human.

But Akiko isn't allowed to share the reality of her true nature with a single soul. Not even her three best friends know of the power she could wield, given the chance.

So, when she's sent back to her homeland to steal an ancient samurai sword, she jumps at the chance to secure her freedom, only to get caught in a deadly game of cat and mouse with the most dangerous crime syndicate in Japan.

Can Akiko escape with her life and her soul, or is true freedom as elusive as the Aether she was born from?

Born of Aether is the fourth book in the Elemental Origins series (which can be enjoyed in any order), a saga which follows four best friends over one magical summer. If you like incredible abilities, strong female characters, and a little romance, then you'll love A.L. Knorr's YA fantasy adventure series.

I didn’t want it to end!

Once again A.L. Knorr delivers another amazing elemental story. She makes the world she is fighting about come alive and I lived every minute with Akiko and didn’t want the story to end. Luckily it now on to Born of Air!

Another gem...

This is the fourth book in the elemental series from A.L Knorr; this time following Akiko’s story in Japan.

Akiko is slightly different from the other girls, and I don’t want to share spoilers, but her background, history and past sparks a mixture of emotions, through a story of family life, tragedy, heartbreak and romance, as well as battles involving spirits and Demons, set in Akiko’s native Japan.

Your heart breaks over and over for Akiko as she faces the trials of her life, which has been way harder than it should have been for her. It is great to see how Abby his woven her story in with the lives of the other three girls, and I look forward to listening to born of air and the elementals books next.

I have read All of the elementals books and know that they are all fantastic, but I enjoy as ever listening to them as well, a lovely way to experience this fantasy world when I am too busy to sit and read a book for myself! Gabriela Jackman continues to do a brilliant job narrating. Haunting story spanning more than one lifetime

One of the things I have enjoyed about this authors writing is the well captured snapshot of other countries customs. Set in both Japan and Canada, giving young people an idea of life in Japan.
This book had a different feel to her others, still just as enjoyable.
Can’t wait to read the story that joins them all now.....thanks Abbey Knorr, I listen to these as I throw pots, makes me very happy!

Amazing

What an intriguing and unusual story. It is very different from all the other books in this wonderful series. It has lots of interesting cultural references and is a really gripping tale with amazing characters. The narrator really brings this book to life. I love this whole series and would recommend listening to this book.

Amazing!

This is Akiko's story - we find out that she's not a teenager like her friends Targa (Born of Water), Saxony (Born of Fire) and Georjie (Born of Earth), she is actually over 100 years old. Her tamashi was stolen and she was held captive for over 100 years. Fearing her sister, a kitsune, had betrayed her so that she could marry Akiko's fiancee, Akiko resigned herself to living as a captive for the rest of her life.

This book switches between present day and Akiko's past.

Akiko has to steal a sword for her captor and once she has recovered it, he will set her free. We see Akiko travelling to Japan in the Aether, transforming between different birds and her human form. She finds allies in Japan and learns more about her true self.

This is truly an amazing book - I initially read the Kindle book and loved it. Gabra Zackman really brings the story to life with her narration.

Definitely well worth listening to. I can't wait to listen to the next book (Born of Air).
