Publisher's Summary

You'll never miss the sunlight until it's gone.

Sixteen-year-old Echo Navarri, daughter of world-famous archaeologists Alice and Peter Navarri, had spent her life traveling from one expedition to the next as her parents unearthed lost civilizations.

On their 13th dig, Midnight, Echo's twin sister, disappears without a trace. This prompts a year-long search that leaves the family nearly broken.

In an attempt to find some closure, they reluctantly host a mock funeral for Midnight without ever recovering her remains.

Nearing the one year anniversary of Midnight's assumed death, Echo is sent to live with her eccentric Aunt Luna who is the caretaker of the centuries old Navarri Estate in Port Royal, Maine.

Echo attempts to settle into her new life in Port Royal, but soon finds that she's destined for adventure as the mystery of her family's history, the sunless town, and it's oddly intriguing people teeter on the supernatural.

    Story
    ",Twilight lite"
Would you try another book written by Rue Volley or narrated by Sarah Puckett?

Yes I would try it for sure This book did have potential,it had a sort of framework but I felt it was the bare bones and little meat to it sort of a Twilight lite. However Id certainly give Rue Volley another chance.Sarah Puckett I think made me enjoy the book more .In most books the performance is important but here it was key .There are some narrators who you know aren't going to let you down. Their voices, attention to tone and story telling are great, you can put the book on and know you're getting the right everything for your money and time. Her performance held emotion and she did a great job injecting that despite the lack of range of emotions that I feel was actually in the print. The Lore was pretty awesome though that was well done.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I adore the whole archaeology scene and think that it was one of the most interesting things about the book.the least interesting was the repetition of questions Echo Navarri was asking herself and how slowly that went and how the answers wern't as satisfying as hoped.

Do you think 13 Ways to Midnight needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Yes as there were a lot of unanswered questions and the story didnt progress very quickly or far.

    Story
    "Could have been better"
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I don't think listening to this book is a time well spent. I was hooked from the beginning and I thought OK this might be a good book. Unfortunately I was disappointed to find out that I was wrong. The book has potential in my opinion however it needs a little more work doing to it.

One of the characters I liked in this story is Echo's aunt. She felt real and had her own problems but she always tried to not let it interfere with her home life. She is honest with Echo, treating her more like an adult then a teenager but at the same time she does act the adult and put a few rules down.

Echo acted like a teenager which is OK. I expected her to act this way since she has been home schooled because her parent move around and therefore she had not been around people her own age. However, I found her to be slow in figuring things out. I don't mind the love at first sight but I didn't believe in the love between her and Thorn and I found the progression of the book very slow. There was not a lot happening in the book. Also we did not get a lot answers to questions which I found frustrating.

Some people have likened it to twilight and I can see why they have but if I had to choose between the two then I would go with twilight being the better because there is progression in the story and things are happening. That doesn't mean this book doesn't have potential because it does but as I mentioned above it just needs more work doing to it.

The narrator was OK she voiced the characters giving them something so you can differentiate between them.

    Story
    "Not for me."

After reading a lot of positive reviews for this, I was excited to start!! But I'm baffled as to how bored I was with it!! I expected a fast paced, engaging read and what I got was a book that basically focused on a teen romance with a vampire. It had echoes of Twilight as well.

So the book focuses on Echo Navarri, daughter of famous archaeologists Alice and Peter Navarri. On a dig with them, her twin, Midnight, goes missing without a trace and Echo is devastated. After a fruitless search, Echo's parents send her home to her aunt. There Echo meets Thorn Vega, a mysterious boy who she feels drawn to. As she dig deeper into who he is, she is drawn into a world she never knew existed.

I didn't particularly like Echo. She was so..... boring maybe. I don't know!! I wanted her to be more proactive and less like she was. I have to say that I hated the insta love/connection she felt for Thorn. It was just so... ugh and overdone. I didn't care whether they got together or not.

While reading, I felt like maybe I dozed off or something, because a lot of the time I was confused as to what was happening and had no clue what was going on, so I pressed back on the audio only to realise that I hadn't missed anything. It was just written like that! It felt very disjointed at times and honestly, at that point I didn't care for the story or the characters to go back and try to immerse myself again. Maybe it was just me, but I found it to be boring and predictable and not something I would read again.

Sarah Puckett read it well. She was clear and easy to listen to and had a few tones and voices for the characters.

The dreaded cliffhanger! This one was pretty bad. However, I do plan to read or possibly listen to the next one. Narrator was okay, but only vaguely changed voices. No male voices to speak of either unless it was an accent.

    "ABSOLUTELY WORTH A LISTEN!"
What made the experience of listening to 13 Ways to Midnight the most enjoyable?

The best part about this book wasn't just the story, but the voice over reader. I have listened to audio books before with readers who have literally put me to sleep. This was NOT one of those. Mrs. Puckett read it masterfully and was engaged in the story, making the listen enjoyable for me.

What did you like best about this story?

The story itself was excellent. Rue Volley, besides having a really cool name, is obviously an excellent author. But the best part was the audio reading. Mrs. Puckett read this professionally and excellently, and she kept me engaged in the story the entire time. P.S. The accents were very good!

Have you listened to any of Sarah Puckett’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is the first performance I have heard so far, but it will not be the last. I plan on purchasing everything else she has done in the past, and in the future! The performance was five stars!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I had a very emotional reaction to this book. The emotional journey for the listener is up to the performer, and Sarah Puckett delivered in a big way. She kept me engaged in the book, and elicited a wide array of emotional reactions!

    Any additional comments?

I highly recommend this audio book. The story and the audio performer are a perfect combination, creating an amazing experience for the listener. Five Stars. Actually, scratch that...TEN STARS!!!

    "Good YA Story"
Would you listen to 13 Ways to Midnight again? Why?

No, I am not a fan of YA books but there are too many others to listen to for me to listen to this one again.

What other book might you compare 13 Ways to Midnight to and why?

Not sure about one that I have listened to that comes close.

Which character – as performed by Sarah Puckett – was your favorite?

She did a fine job with all of them. I did not have a favorite. Although Echo was done very well.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

    No

    Any additional comments?

I did not care for the parents. Why would you send your daughter away after she loses her twin They were too selfish for me. I got this book via audiobook boom.

    "an amazing and magical tale"

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audio book by the author, narrator or publisher.

    and it was so awesome!!!

this story has a lot of folclore I haven't heard before and some that I had but it was so masterfully interwined that it was perfect.

the romance was so intriguing and all the upsides downs and twists the narration had, make this book a favorite already.

one thing I found amusing was the balance between suspense, romance and comedy I got from this book, it was superb I mean everything was where it needed to be and nothing felt awkward or misplaced.

if you like vampires and magic and romance you should pick this one up.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, because its a great book and has a really good story line.

What did you like best about this story?

The town seems to have a lot of different stories to it. Im hoping that these come to light in the second book.

Have you listened to any of Sarah Puckett’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No but she did a great job of bringing the characters to life with so much emotion.

    Any additional comments?

Great book recommended to all ages. I didnt like how Echo was all over Thorn even though he was a jerk to her. I also kind of hated how the ending seemed to just end awkwardly.

    "Fantastic Audiobook-Complements the Novel "

The narration is perfect...she's the voice of Echo Navarri, in my mind (other than the author herself). The ebb and flow is fantastic and the little nuances the narrator gives the story as she reads it puts you RIGHT THERE. I can't wait to listen to Book Two!

"I fell in love with the character all over again."
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Before the audiobook, I read 13 Ways to Midnight and fell in love with the story. Hearing narrator, Sarah Puckett, bring the story to new life was remarkable. Sarah nailed the snark of Echo, the perkiness of Maddie, and the wit of Aunt Luna. I fell in love with the character all over again.

What other book might you compare 13 Ways to Midnight to and why?

While there is a bit of a Twilight vibe to this story, it certain does not rip off the Twilight storyline.

    Which scene was your favorite?

My favorite scene is Aunt Luna and Echo battling the "Pet Cemetery" version of Mr. Jenny. Luna definitely became one of my favorite characters after that!

    Any additional comments?

I loved this audiobook. Sarah Puckett brought 13 Ways to Midnight to life for me again. I cannot wait to read and listen to the next book.

    "Major Cliffhanger Warning"

The synopsis of this book had me hooked but the story itself with it's major cliffhanger ending was a big dissapointment. It started off great and the core ideas are good ones but the execution just was not there. I kept listening hoping it would get better again, thrilling like the beginning but it didn't. Sarah Puckett's narration was the only thing that saved this story for me.
