Summary
"When I get old, I hope to have friends as awesome as these. This is an absolutely feel good novel. Naturally, our intrepid characters, wattles and all, undergo all sorts of trials, but it's the compassion and generosity they exhibit that endears the reader." (Sam Sanders, via NetGalley)
Zany families, eccentric friends, and ne'er-do-well neighbors inhabit the labyrinthine lives of three women friends as they grapple with real-world events in one "Golden Year".
An unwelcome visit from local law enforcement, a younger friend's romantic chaos, and the death of a parent combine with daily mundanities - laundry, scones, and senior sex - to create a walloping, raucous listen.
Opinionated pets - critics and alter egos - offer a rich counterpoint to the human dramas affecting their lives.
Unfiltered and compelling, this entertaining sago provides listeners of all ages with a new and positive view of growing older.

Bitterly disappointed.
The pronunciation, speed and drawl of the audio book needs subtitles. Will have to purchase the real book and consider my audible purchase a complete waste.

light literature
Enjoyable but very light on content. slighyly surprising pronounciation (American?) of some words. Plus, i find talking and writing animals a bit annoying. Also: is 59 now considered 'old'?!

Hilarious!
Take some 50-something adventurous ladies who decide to make a stand in order to save a building from demolition .... And then we also have their canines' viewpoints and dialogues telling us what actually happened and you have a story which is worth a million bucks! It is so funny!
And this is just how the story begins...
Sharon Phennah must have the most amazing sense of humor. The way she tells this story is unique and really worth either reading or listening to.
We also have a lively narration by Sandra Murphy which helps lift this book even further into the 'keeping of one's interest glued to it' realm.
I loved it and am sure you will too, so of course you can take this as my firm recommendation!
I requested and listened to a free audiobook version and my review above is voluntary and unbiased.

I need to sit in the doctor's chair after this
I got this story via audiobook boom and this is my voluntary review. This story had so many characters talking with such similar names that I was hard put to know if the animals were talking or the humans. I listened to the whole book because I wanted to know the outcome of Bruce's trial. So many people are unfairly incarcerated because someone was angry with them and framed them and this story brought that point out. It also showed the many flaws in man's justice system and how a person's life can be ruined because of innuendo and lies. The women were funny, the animals funnier but I needed to have a session with the shrink after listening to this story, especially since I was listening to it until 3 a.m. in the morning. the narrator got confused with the voices at times, but overall did not take away from the story. There were several mini stories in the book as well.

Scattered
The story had potential but was taken off into to many different directions. The inclusion of talking pets was also absurd and detracted from the actual story. The ending seemed abrupt and hasty.

Worst book ever!
Was this supposed to be funny or even a “slice of life story”? The premise - false accusations of a terrible crime - is not funny at all. I couldn’t connect with any of the characters. The sections with the animals talking does not add to the story at all and is a distraction. I cringed through the entire book and had to skip some sections. In my opinion, don’t waste your time.

Different and unique
This was definitely a different and unique story. Although not really my cup of tea, I was entertained. The performance was superb! I could tell who was speaking before the ," so and so said was spoken.

Disappointing
It left too many things unanswered and too many obvious issues that could have been better dealt with.

You can't iron
This was a fun romp with some older folks and their dogs. The people stand up for what they feel is right and the dogs discuss it among themselves. Sandra Murphy was a fine narrator. I was given this book by the narrator, author or publisher free for an honest review.

Enjoyable and fun read!
I enjoyed this story of aging, dysfunctional relationships, functional relationships, and good supportive friends. The story was quite touching. The animal antics were also great fun. I definitely recommend this book! I was gifted a copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
