Not what I was expecting - better!

Yoga nidra literally means “yogic sleep,” and it’s a technique in which one systematically pursues a high degree of relaxation. Still, it’s a bit of a misnomer in that one doesn’t actually fall asleep. In theory, that is, most practitioners will have the experience of falling asleep at some point in practice. That’s because one is entering a hypnagogic state in which one is on the leading edge of falling asleep. It’s not always easy to stay on one side of that line (without being excessively mentally aroused.) The practice is typically done with a teacher who verbally instructs the students (live or via a recording) —because it’s quite hard to keep the sequence straight without an excessively high level of mental arousal— particularly for new practitioners. This book is divided in two parts: the first part is on yoga nidra meditations, on how to ward off depression with this practice, on how to harness yoga nidra and mindfulness for self-growth, and more. The second part is on micro-meditations that can be done at any time with eyes wide open, on a contemporary version of ancient methods to navigate your yoga nidra consciousness, on methods to liberate difficult mental and emotional states...this is a complete book

Best book about Yoga Nidra I am aware of

Excellent narration. This book provides such a wealth of excellent resources and practical tools about the transformative and powerful yet very subtle practice of Yoga Nidra. Essentially, Emily not only provides in-depth explanations of the philosophy of Yoga Nidra, but also a plethora of information as to its practical applications and benefits. This book is written with great details and provides a deeper understanding of the history and science of Yoga Nidra as well as how to apply these ancient secrets of Yoga Nidra to our daily lives. In the concluding chapter of this book, the author also presents how to make the "you-turn" from small self to no-self then to self-love. Recommended

Emiliy Clark's book is an Restorative experience

Well written book about Yoga Nidra. When you begin this practice, it is important to keep in mind that this course isn’t just a quick listen. It is a commitment you make to yourself to spend the necessary time to build this new foundation from which you can view yourself and your life. What could be more important than that? As you work with the process, you move into new areas of your being, areas that take you a step closer to the fountain of Joy that has always resided within you, hidden beyond those veils. The beauty of this practice is that it helps you understand that you are not separate from what you are seeking. It has always been here, within you. It just got hidden behind all of these outer concerns. I’ve been teaching meditation for 25 years and can honestly say that if you are looking for a way to go deeper within yourself, here it is.

This is a wonderful book and provides a process...

This book gives a step-by-step guide to beginning and deepening a Yoga Nidra practice. The first chapter talks about what Yoga Nidra is, and how it can improve your sleep, make you more aware, reduce stress, help you to cope with emotions, and heal your body. Then each chapter focuses on one aspect of Yoga Nidra, opening your awareness to different areas of your body, mind, and spirit. Meditations includes visualizing a happy and safe place, doing a mental scan of your body, listening to your emotions, observing and releasing your thoughts, focusing on the breath, and setting an intention for your well-being. My new yoga bible!

I really love the ideas in this book. I have already read dozens (hundreds?) of articles about how to sleep better, and it seems like they all say the same things, about electronics and lighting and reducing caffeine and all that. This is the first book I’ve seen that offered me a genuinely different idea for sleeping better, and it offers other benefits as well, like reducing stress and breathing better. I look forward to having more time to dedicate to this practice soon, I already start to love it!

Perfect would be higher

Perfect to listen to at bedtime for falling asleep to or any other time of the day, even before morning coffee. You can use it to listen to completely without falling asleep or to help you fall asleep. I listen to it every single night.

Nice to Hear

Generally excellent. Extremely mandate and bunches of brisk quick visuals. Exquisite voice and simple to do. Two half hour meetings. I would suggest this.
