MARIE CLAIRE 'BEST BOOKS OF 2022' AND FEBRUARY PICK FOR MALALA'S LITERATI BOOKCLUB
Yinka wants to find love. Her mum wants to find it for her.
She also has too many aunties who frequently pray for her delivery from singledom, a preference for chicken and chips over traditional Nigerian food, and a bum she's sure is far too small as a result. Oh, and the fact that she's a thirty-one-year-old South-Londoner who doesn't believe in sex before marriage is a bit of an obstacle too...
When her cousin gets engaged, Yinka commences 'Operation Find A Date for Rachel's Wedding'. Armed with a totally flawless, incredibly specific plan, will Yinka find herself a huzband?
What if the thing she really needs to find is herself?

A heart warming story
I thoroughly enjoyed this story, it is extremely relatable as a dark skin Nigerian woman at the same point in my life and having once lived in Peckham. It touched on such important topics that should be corrected especially for the growing younger ladies.

Rises above cliche
This is a book about finding yourself and discovering values that matter. This risk predictability and cliche and indeed some plot elements follow an unsurprising path. Nevertheless there is such an evocation of person and culture, told with a sympathetic wit with some wry and perceptive observation that it rises above that and is an uplifting book of affirmation. It’s is superbly narrated to so you KNOW the characters

Brilliant, nuanced narrative
Wholesome read, really well written with tough subjects (colourism, mysogynoir, inter generational tension with culture in first generation blacks brits) but not heavy with trauma etc.
Explores difficult relationships between women at different
'stages and tensions with (idk what wave of feminism we're currently in) and wanting love / traditional romantic setups
and inter generational expectations and motivations for parents / aunties pushing for young women to 'settle down' with nuance and grace.

Great storytelling
The story was well written and told. Even though I am not a south London girl or millennial, I could relate to the themes.

A must listen!!! So relatable as an 1st daughter in African household. Give Lizzie and Ronke their flowers
30mins into it and I’ve been itching to write a review and I don’t usually review books. I have about an hour to go and I can’t wait any longer.
thank you for having someone who is Nigerian/of Nigerian heritage do the narration. Ronke captured the African Aunty and Yoruba sayings so well. It can be so irritating when you’re listening to a book that requires a nigerian accent being voiced by another African that doesn’t understand the phonetics.
I loved this book so much. It captures what many/if not most African 1st born daughter go through with their parents and extended families go through when they are approaching 30, unmarried and childless.
It also touches on the dynamics between cousins and siblings and how the pressure of getting married and popping babies out by a certain age can affect those relationships.
I look forward to reading more book by Lizzie. I’m trying not to give anything away. But stay away from men like Alex. Even me self, I’m angry at him unbehalf of Yinka.

My soul feels good
This book gave me all the feel. Listening to it was a good call because it made it better. If you are of African or Caribbean decent this will make you feel seen.
