Summary

Only the strongest survive...most of the time...

Raven may be a shifter, but she's always felt separate from her wolf. She never knew it should be different. Then, a stranger shows up in her hometown, turning her world upside down and recruiting her for the elite Bloodshed Academy.

Everything she's ever known is challenged, and Raven finds herself in impossible situations. Making matters worse is the fact that one of the strongest alphas at school catches her eye. And he makes her feel things she doesn't understand.

The school may only recruit the best of the best, the strongest in their world, but there's something more about Raven. When push comes to shove, she has to decide if she's willing to fight for what she's come to love...or run from a life she can't quite accept.

Good Start to Academy Series

I enjoyed this, it's a fun story though some is quite predictable. I liked Raven when she really let herself shine. I absolutely loved Jess, she added so much life and humour to the story. I'm not fully sold on Rage, he's such a jerk to everyone else.

I'll definitely continue this series.

Good fun!

I was given this audiobook in return for an honest review.
I've rounded up from 3.5 stars for the fundamental reason that I enjoyed this book, and I really want to know what happens next. It had its faults, but will go on my list of re-listens for when I just need something easy and fun.
I really liked some of the characters, they were fun and had real character, and the narrator made them sound just right. The book was absorbing and held my interest. It was a bit predictable at times, but equally there are mysteries to be ponder too. It did feel quite short, there wasn't that much to the story (sometimes books have too much "filler", but I felt this could have been fleshed out a bit instead of skipping a few days/weeks/months ahead sometimes), but there are a few things that have been hinted at which will hopefully be revealed in the rest of the series.
I'm looking forward to finding out what happens to Raven in book 2!

A magnificent new series

Loving this first book in the series. Raven is at the end of her school year. She was picked to be a part of Bloodshed Academy. Only the best get an invitation. This is the beginning of Ravens magical adventure. So many different supernaturals brought together. Such a fun book. The narrator did a fantastic job.

Amazing and alluring plot

When I first started this audiobook I was kind of stuck in reading. Everything I picked up it was difficult to read... I picked this one up thinking "hey, this is promising, but the shifters part?... I don't know...". I finished wanting to listen to the next one!

I really enjoyed everything about this book, Cole is something else xD
The narrator is really adequate for the character.
It's an amazing kickstart for this series!

I received a free audio copy from the author for an honest review :)

Bloodshed academy book 1

This is the first book in this series and it has potential. This book contains a variety of supernaturals, shapeshifters, vampires and fae. It is a good book and I feel it is laying the ground work for a bigger story to come. The characters in the story are good and I enjoyed listening to it.

Really good start to the series.

This book does a great job of kicking off the series. You jump right into the story, and meet the main characters relatively quickly. I must say I really enjoyed all the characters and expect to see some development of them in the next books. In particular Cole was a favourite- I really laughed at some of his scenes. I enjoyed the fact that there is a theme of strong friendships in this book. It isn't RH but Raven has a solid footing with all the guys and it's really refreshing. The romance side is fast moving and this book definitely seems like it is setting up for some interesting plots to come. Overall a really enjoyable listen.

an entertaining story

For Raven, life has already been decided. She is a woman werewolf and even if she feels inadequate in the position, she knows that she cannot change the rules of the game... or can she? All the tropes are here. I loved Jess, her best friend who is sassy and the budding love story between Raven and the guys. I enjoyed listening to this story. I want to know where the love story goes and how Raven will face and defeat her ennemies. I want to know how she will change the so outdated rules of her pack to become a female alpha.

Addictive!

Jen L. Grey created an irresistible world with an intriguing plot that gives us characters that frustrate, entertain and are delightfully delicious!

I loved this beautiful book so hard!! This was humorous with plenty of action and characters that are positively captivating! The snark, the banter and the steam were all equally addictive!

Raven is surrounded by 3 guys who will each make you sigh in the best of ways. Each one has a distinctive personality. I was highly amused by Cole and all of his inappropriate ways. Rage is the total broody male who rocks those alpha vibes. Damien is a little bit more reserved but he's just as trustworthy as his friends. Their group dynamic is pure awesomeness!

Jess is a fricking fairy! She is the ultimate bestie and I wish I could magic her out of this book to hang with. I loved the heart that she brought to the five. She is the light of this book and I could not imagine a better gal pal for Raven.

I'm excited to begin Year Two because I've got so many theories and questions! I found myself craving this book whenever I had to set it aside. I know that I smiled my way through most of these wonderfully written words. I was totally immersed and didn't want this to end.

An amazing start to an amazing world

The world that Jen L Grey has created in Bloodshed Academy is addictive. Bloodshed Academy is the mythical magical world of Harry Potter with hints of Divergent & The Hunger Games when they named the Academy Bloodshed they weren’t kidding!

Raven is a small town girl living outside of Nashville in Clarksville Tennessee, with her parents, her next in line to be Alpha boyfriend, & their pack of werewolves. When Greg’s father gets a call that Bloodshed is sending a recruiter out for one of his pack members, he & everyone else jump to the conclusion that they must obviously mean his athletic, territorial Alpha son, but boy are they wrong. They want Raven, the girl who is having trouble connecting with her wolf, but why is she having such a hard time connecting with & controlling her wolf? When Raven bumps into Cole the handsome vampire who smells like cotton candy at the concession stand she’s sure he’s got the wrong girl for Bloodshed Academy & that it’s all just a cruel joke. But Cole promises to be back for her after graduation for the next chapter of her life to begin.

At her graduation Cole brings along friend & wolf shifter Rage who has an undeniable attraction to Raven, but why can’t she keep her eyes off him, & why does he feel like home? Once whisked away to Bloodshed Academy, Raven’s whole world opens up. She has a new BFF & not just frenemies, the 3 hottest guys at the Academy have her back, & will she finally learn to sync with her wolf?!

Jen L Grey takes us on a roller-coaster ride of emotions from start to finish. Raven isn’t the only one that changes throughout the book, we meet her room-mate on her first night at the Academy & Jess shows unshakable loyalty to Raven. The fiery fae’s banter with the lovable but over the top vamp that is Cole is one of my favorite parts. The world of Bloodshed Academy is my favorite of Grey’s worlds so far! I can’t wait to see what else she has in store for us!

I have both read the book & listened to the audiobook & I LOVE the way that Brittany Goodwin has voiced all of the different characters that we’re introduced to! Other than Raven my favorite that she has given an amazing voice to is Jess, Raven’s roommate & BFF, Brittany’s rendition of Jess & her demeanor reminded me of Luna Lovegoods voice (if she were American of course!)

meh

I guess the banter between the friends was supposed to be fun and playful but it was just lame. I really disliked the dialogue in this book. There was not much to the storyline. I kept listening waiting for something more to happen. I am curious about book 2 because of how this one ended but I cannot put myself through it.

Felt like it could be a single book not a series

This book felt like it was all wrapped up and didn't need more for it. Like there wasn't much anticipation to anything really bc it jumped into the results and conclusion. I stopped at chapter 17 bc I honestly felt it was all wrapped up by that point and lost all interest in it. Only thing not told by that point was everything about the necklace. Like why did mom give it to her.... honestly favorite thing in the book is the Male lead, but that lost its edge fast by that chapter as well. Narrator I thought was pretty good. But I returned this book. Honestly wasn't worth the credit for me personally.

Loved!!

I loved this book so much! I also loved the characters and the narrator did an amazing job with this story. Raven has a lot to learn and doesn’t understand why this academy wants her to join it. I loved getting to learn all about this with Raven and I can’t wait for the next book!
