Summary

Richard Blade’s autobiography is much more than a spotlight on any one decade. Instead, he gives you a jaw-dropping, uncensored insider’s look into the world of music, movies, and television and its biggest stars, starting in the '60s and continuing through to the new century. Richard takes you on a journey that few have experienced, from his early days as a student at Oxford to the wild, lascivious nights of being a disco DJ touring the clubs of Europe to coming to America and working with Michael Jackson, Barbra Streisand, and Sarah Jessica Parker and finally breaking through into the LA radio scene and becoming the number one morning drive personality in California.

From his TV and radio shows to his feature films and live gigs, Richard shares stories that have, until now, remained secret. His unique perspective will take you on the road with Depeche Mode to Australia with Spandau Ballet into the recording studio with Morrissey and onto the main stage at Live Aid with Duran Duran. He opens up about his friendships with Michael Hutchence and George Michael, as well as his passionate love affair with Terri Nunn of Berlin.

This is a no-holds-barred look at life, sex, and death, set to a pulsing backbeat of music. For the first time, Richard Blade shares his extraordinary story, allowing us to see the world through his eyes.

The audiobook is not only read by Richard Blade but features a full cast of voices of many of the superstar acts featured in Richard's previously untold stories, including Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, Spandau Ballet, and Terri Nunn of Berlin.

It is a unique and extraordinary audio experience.

Sweet Trip Down Memory Lane 80s Style

I am biased on this book as Richard Blade was responsible for my fond love of New Wave music back in my time. the 1980s.here in Los Angeles.
To fully read about his upbringing, with its trials & tribulations along with major accomplishments only enhances my experience in this DJ who shaped a way of life for those who listened to KROQ during the 80s in Los Angeles.
The bands & music he spoke about and got to know on a personal level gives you a very intimate perspective on these bands & its members letting one come to know them more than just musicians.
I can say that some of the experiences & dates he describes in his story I was very fortunate to also have been there & part of during them.
Thank you Mr. Richard "Blade" Sheppard for what you did in bringing this new type of music back then, always with a smile & positive attitude toward your fans.
I would say this book best describes what the New Wave music scene here in Los Angeles was back in the 1980s.
A very enthusiastic two thumbs up for "World In My Eyes"

Outstanding Autobiography

This was such a great book. I really enjoyed learning about Richard "Sheppard" Blade and the history of KROQ. He has lead such an extraordinary life and really reached the true American Dream. I really admire and respect Richard for all he has accomplished and the beautiful life he has led. The stories were so good. I laughed, cried and was in awe as I journeyed through this book. The performance was read with true feeling and emotion; Richard sure can tell a story like no other. The only regret was finishing the book as I really wanted to hear more. Thanks again Richard Blade for sharing your life story and reminding all of us that if we set goals in life, we can truly achieve anything. If you're into 80s music, an incredible life and have ever been a fan of 1st Wave on SirusXM or KROQ, this is the book for you. A must read!!

Amaze-Balls!

As a longtime Richard Blade fan from the fabulous KROQ days of the 80s, I read his book when it first came out. I read it nonstop on a flight to Paris squealing & cheering like a madwoman. I was so upset though that it hasn't been released initially on audio! Ohmygod...the audio was beyond amazing! I mean, you have to listen to the best dj in the world speaking his life! I recommend this book though to anyone well versed with the 80s & new wave/dark wave music.

A gripping and unabashed life in 80,s journey.

Richard Blade captures the time that each of us remembers. His own personal hardships, pain, and love pours out in his book. You learn about so much more than just music. Biographical books are one thing...this one almost tells many of our own stories too. I enjoyed every minute of this audiobook. The only problem is that it ended, leaving us wanting more chapters! Cheers Richard

Any and all music fan will cherish this book!

I was born in Santa Monica Ca.. and loved my first 35 years in and around LA. I am about 4 years younger than Richard, but my life parallels Richards life in So. Call. (of course in a much less famous way). I know ALL of the locations Richards talks about.
I am a huge music fan (understated) of almost all types of music. I was a main-stream rocker until New-wave started. I found the Cars, Talking Heads, Roxy Music and some more in my early 20s. I was also a SCUBA diver are that time also..... but I didn't know of Richards at that time.... too bad fine me....I discovered Richard and KROQ very late 1989-1990.…..I knew of KROQ, my radio signal was never very strong, and to tell the real truth, I didn't like PUNK very much! Sorry punk rockers.... but new-wave became my fav.
I've got soooo much more to say, but this is supposed to be a review of " The world in my eyes" Richard I hope you read these reviews. I would like to someday tell you directly how much your book means to me and my life!!!
I am going to write Letter about everything I felt while reading your book and find a way to send it to you.
lastly, I bought the book and only got about one-third through it before I bought the audio version to hear Richard tell his sorry. Anyone who only read the book should hear it brought to life by Richard!.
Too much to say, but not here. thanks for your life Richard.

excellent book

Richard's attention to detail is astonishing. His story is amazing, and his inclusion of emotion makes you feel like you're going through his trials with him. Amazing memoir.

As a music lover who came of age in the 1980s I loved this book!

As someone who discovered alternative music as I entered high school in 1982, this book took me back to the days of discovering bands that still remain some of my most favorite today. I’ll never forget the first time I heard Yaz, Depeche Mode, U2, the Cure, the Cult, and so many more that truly shaped who I was then and who I became today. Richard Blade took me back to those times in his first person account that talks about the good the bad and the tragic. His distinct voice that only a DJ can possess keeps you wanting more chapter after chapter. If you love music this is a must read for you.
