"When survival means marrying your enemy, love becomes you most dangerous weapon."

At thirteen, Aurelia's world collapses when her parents begin working for the Juarez Cartel-a ruthless organization running drugs and trafficking women through their Texas border town. Determined not to be consumed by their darkness, Aurelia secretly gathers years of incriminating evidence, planning her escape. Her moment comes when her parents arrange her marriage to a cartel member. Forced to run, she turns everything over the FBI and enters witness protection. But even a new identity isn't enough.

The cartel grows stronger, richer, and more violent. And when they come searching for the girl who betrayed them, Aurelia must choose:

Keep running
or
Fight back

Her journey twists through secrets, danger, and a love powerful enough to either save her-or destroy her.

Aurelia is only thirteen years old when her parents begin working for the Juarez Cartel. She wants out and begins gathering incriminating evidence against the cartel and their ruthless leader Miguel. The cartel deals with drugs, and women and girls. Miguel is a hardened boss and runs the organization with an iron fist. When Aurelia’s plan to escape fails, she is forced to marry Diego, Miguel’s son, and become property of the Juarez Cartel.

When I started this book, it took me a little time to find my footing, but once the cartel tightened its grip, so did the story. I became compleatly invested. The family drama, the abuse, the violence, and the tangled realationships slowly pulled me in. Before I knew it, I was fully committed to these characters and needed to know how their story ended.

The narrator Bree Allison did a wonderful job bringing this story to life. She has a beautiful, comfortable voice. As someone who is sensitive to sounds, this can make or break an audiobook for me. Bree Allison is one of those narrators who elevates an already compelling story.

I’d recommend this to readers who enjoy family drama, dangerous romance, and the kind of violence that constantly reminds you that no one in this world is safe.
