About this listen

Andre Norton enthralled readers for decades with thrilling tales of people challenged to the limits of their endurance in epic battles of good against evil. None are more memorable than her Witch World novels.

Simon Tregarth, a man from our own world, escapes his doom through the gates to the Witch World. There he aids the witch Jaelithe's escape from the hounds of Alizon, only to find himself embroiled in a deeper war against an even deadlier foe: the Kolder.

Great to have this classic of fantasy/ sword-and-sorcery as an audio book.
Do listen to the sample however. The performance is a bit dull with the same cadence throughout.

Classic of SF/Fantasy

Andre Norton was a writer with tremendous powers of invention. The performance wasn't bad, but it could have been better; many of the readers of audio books have a tendency to rush the narrative - as is the case here.
In addition I found the pronunciation of some of the names a bit weird, Yle is unpronounceable - lacking guidance from Ms Norton I'd guess that the first letter could be pronounced 'Yee' or something similar, but Wily?? It made me think of the road-runner and Wily Coyote - beep beep!

Good, but could have been better.

Great story! I know the ending seems sort of done now, but at the time it was revolutionary. It’s great to hear what inspires so many others.

Wish it was a more enthusiastic narrator

What made the experience of listening to Witch World the most enjoyable?

I had, many years ago, been an avid reader of Andre Norton and this was the first I read. It was fascinating to listen to another's way of reading the book. It was as exciting as I remember and it is a good once only read.

What did you like best about this story?

The story was an old favourite but it was nice to be read too.

Which character – as performed by Nick Podehl – was your favourite?

Tho' the accent was not as my mind had immagined, it was the way Nick narrated the whole book that made the story relive in my mind.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

My intention was to listen in small sessions, whilst driving but the style of reading ensured that I listened to the complete book much faster than I intended!!

Any additional comments?

It has confirmed my wish to buy the other books in the series and the other books by the author.
