About this listen

A beautiful exploration of cold-water traditions in Scandinavia and around the world, and a thorough account of why it provides such a boost to body and soul.

Whether in lake, lido, river or sea, we know the benefits of swimming outdoors and in nature—environmentally friendly and accessible, it can influence our happiness, our energy and our inner tranquillity. Winter Swimming takes this one step further, as contact with cold water all year round can also have a significant positive impact on our physical health, confidence and well-being.

Danish scientist Susanna Søberg leads us step by step into the icy water and explains the 'cold-shock response', the massive endorphin rush as our body reacts and adapts. Not only do our circulation, heart, lungs and skin respond positively, but our immune system and metabolism too. Most specifically she explains how our 'brown fat' is activated to benefit multiple health conditions.

Winter Swimming is both a beautiful exploration of cold-water traditions in Scandinavia and around the world, and a thorough account of why it provides such a boost to body and soul.

I was aware of the benefits of cold water exposure but this book provided a lot of interesting scientific proof. Also highlighted benefits of sauna heat exposure. Great book and must read/listen for anyone interested in health & longevity.

Fabulous book About Cold & Heat Exposure

Based on a Ph.D. thesis, it is not surprising that this book is densely scientific and focused on the subject of the Ph.D., brown fat. However, around this subject there is a great deal of useful scientific information and insights. Particularly liked the chapters on physical and mental health. Giving honest interpretations of things like using essential oils in wellness, it is also very well read.

Awesome focus

This is the first book that specifically details - in layman’s terms - what happens to your body in cold water & sauna - why you feel amazing - why its all good and the best for keeping you positive and healthy - highly recommend 😀👍👍👍
