Summary

It all started with a broken classroom heater....

Graduate school prepares you for many things - the rigor of academic life, how to pull consecutive all-nighters, and living off a meager stipend without having to be roommates with cockroaches.

Elle Graft might have made it through six years of graduate school, but she's not convinced she'll survive her first position as an Assistant Professor. Because for all she learned, graduate school never prepared her for dealing with a student crush.

Super!

I was so excited to see that one of my first lesfic reads had been brought to Audible.
I have always been endeared to Elle and Hunter.
I was not at all disappointed.
I loved their story just as much as I did when I read it years ago.
Great writing as always by Eliza.
Great narration.
Absolutely loved it.
Can’t wait for the next instalment.

struggled to finish

The first half was ok. The second half was chaotic and not really credible to me.

Terrific narration!

I'd not read anything by Eliza and still have The Woman in 3B in my Kindle. But when I saw that she'd hired the "legendary" Angela Dawe to narrate this book I had to pause everything else and listen to it. Dawe and Abby Craden are my favorite narrators and sadly, we only have a handful of Dawe-narrated lesfic books to enjoy. In the beginning I was completely hooked. It was funny and you understood and empathized with Assistant Professor Elle Graft's fascination with Hunter, a beautiful, decade-younger nursing student taking her English class. Stories about teacher/student relationships tend to make me feel a bit uncomfortable since I once taught high school, but this was college and Hunter was of legal age. And - importantly - there was nothing unprofessional that occurred while Hunter was in her class. All good. My issue with the story came into play in the second half - once the two got together. The sexual chemistry was off the charts but you would have thought it was Elle who was the one a decade younger. She was a hot mess and I almost felt sorry for Hunter that Elle was her first. It's understandable that Elle was uncomfortable with the age difference initially (though like I said - Hunter was the more mature of the two) but she beat that horse to death. And then she was so damn wishy-washy and made some really terrible decisions. One of these involved someone who reappears from her past and that's pretty much when the story lost much of its appeal.
There were good things about it. I liked Hunter, Elle's friends, and it was a very steamy read. Ultimately, though, Elle was a bit too flawed for me to root for her very much. There were also some grammatical errors that you don't often catch on audio but stood out - problematic when Elle is supposed to be an English professor. This gets 4 stars because of Angela Dawe - who always elevates a work. Dawe doesn't just read, but performs. Each character has their own distinct voice and I especially liked Hunter's. And Dawe's narration of the love scenes? Lord have mercy. This is the first of a series that many in FB groups have said that they love. I may give the second one a go - especially if Dawe narrates it. But I won't be rushing out to do it.

Eh

Was very close to giving up on this book.
Main character was an idiot through most of the book, and her best friend was annoying.
Only reason i finished the book was because Angela Dawe did a great job
I honestly thought Hunter deserved better than Elle
There are many books that are better than this one, dont waste your credits

Love this series and love the audiobook

This is one of my favorite series of all time. It’s always nice to hear the audiobook after reading the book because you get a fresh perspective from the narrator. Angela Dawe knocked this out of the park. I look forward to listening to the rest of the series.

Hello Professor!

I love age-gap romance so throw in professor & student there and we have a winner. Very hot & steamy too.

Angela Dawe can elevate any story

This was my first experience with this author and it might be my last. This isn’t the worst book I’ve ever read by far, but it was a bit of a mess. The first half was interesting enough, though it began to feel like a “wash, rinse, repeat” cycle of Professor Elle obsessing over something Hunter did in class, berating herself for her obsession, then rehashing her obsession with her friends, who flip-flopped between encouraging her and discouraging her to go for it. The repetitive focus on Elle’s obsession rather than her personality or other aspects of her life left me feeling like I didn’t really get a chance to know her by the time the story picked up. And since the whole story is from her perspective, I learned virtually nothing about Hunter.

Once the two got together things peaked for a little while. But then in the latter half of the story, Elle behaved immaturely to a mind-boggling degree. You’d have thought she was the 20 year-old, not Hunter. Some of her erratic behaviors and impulsive decisions made very little sense to me. The sex scenes between the two characters are hot, but their relationship lacked substance. What do these two even have in common?? I’m not sure, as they rarely had conversations that didn’t center around the high drama of whether they should be together at all. Overall the story is well written, but I won’t be revisiting these characters again. They were too frustrating.

The great Angela Dawe, however, did make the experience much better than it would have otherwise been. As always her character voices were distinct, her acting was superb and her reading of the sex scenes was scorching hot. Angela could read me the Apple terms and conditions and I’d be ecstatic. Her performance alone makes the story worth a listen, especially since there are regrettably fewer lesfics narrated by her than my fangirl heart would wish!

I want my credit back!

I kept listening in hopes that it would get better. No such luck, it never did.
