A really sweet second chance love story. I knew I'd love Asa's story, he and Scott were great characters, and worked so well together. Their story was full of warmth, humour and understanding, there is some angst, but this was necessary for the story to work. Their character development is incredibly well done, both guys grow in personality and depth, and the motivations that propel them throughout the story are clear. It also was lovely to come across the 'family' again, it was great to find out that Tristan and Wade haven't changed in the slightest, Sebastian and Beau are still madly in love, and the remainder of the crew are flourishing. A heartwarming and emotional story, captured beautifully by Darcy Starks. I'm totally loving the audiobooks if this series.

So happy to finally have Coach's story! Asa has been in the background for the beginning, pushing his players and coaching team to be better and maybe even helping some couples be together. Now he gets the happy ending he deserves after more than a few years of waiting.
He and Scott were best friends for years before Asa realised he maybe liked Scott more than as just friends. Scott did not make the best choice for them then, taking off to Washington, and so it's now at the point where we left off in book three and Asa needs to be taking it bit easy, maybe even, shock horror, work less! That's where Scott comes in, though that's definitely against Asa's wishes to start with. It's fun reading him trying to actively dislike Scott but it's also clear how much he's missed him. There is plenty of strong emotions going around for both men and they get used to being around each other again, and then there are tentative steps forward to the future they desperately want together. Fear, guilt and sadness mar the last year they were together and the several spent apart but now there is the chance for everything they wanted from life - football, family and each other. Asa's dilemma comes in the form of telling his son, Beau. Waiting too long or having him find out from someone else could cause chaos and of course, it never goes how we want.
There is some drama on the field as the Piranhas attempt to keep their excellent and unexpected season going, and then the festive season brings out the secret Santa gifts, one being especially epic for Asa. The team has highs and lows but the constant of Asa being an exceptional coach has them all pushing to be better and Scott is an even more positive impact on that, showing just how great they can be together, on and off the field.
Coach's story makes my heart so happy! I love having him and Scott get their much deserved HEA, after he's been seeing everyone else on the team get theirs. I'm really looking forward to the last book of the series but also sad that it will be coming to an end when I've enjoyed it so much from the start.

Darcy Stark has again brought life to the brilliant characters that Beth Bolden has written. Having looked forward to this one for so long, it makes me happy to hear Asa's voice experiencing the happiness that he deserves. There's a lot of emotion to narrate and Darcy does an amazing job, especially keeping track of all of the character voices with so many added to the growing group.

An enjoyable book. Asa is an incorrigible grump and it was great to see him get his HEA. I liked it even though it's second chance and that's not usually my thing, but the quality of the writing and the narration was good enough I could ignore that. Bo and Sebastian were necessarily a large part of it, Bo being Asa's son, and I was left curious and wanting to read their story. Although it was longer than it needed to be in parts, Winning the Season was a great story with some festive elements. Recommended.

There is a lengthy prologue at the beginning, but this gives us some really important back story as to how Asa has fell in love with Scott and really sets us up for where the story then begins - Chapter 1 brings us back 7 years later, when Scott is reappearing into Asa’s life (after walking away from him and choosing football and his career over coming out and being potentially happy).

I have to say - I love how Beth Bolden interweaves their knowledge of sport to create a good solid plot which is not solely the romance alone. The romance is still a good part of the story, but it holds equal weight to the rest of the story, rather than being the sole focus. However the epilogue which is more romance focussed was just the absolute sweetest.

Darcy Stark is a fairly new narrator to me, but I have to say they did a stellar job of this. The prologue was a little confusing to listen to, I did need to go back a couple of times to check I understood, but once we got onto the main story I flew through it - such a great story and the narration from chapter 1 was much easier to follow. Their characterisation of both Asa (and his grumpy / stubborn behaviour) and Scott’s lighter more sunshine character was brilliant - they really brought both characters to life for me.

This can be read as a standalone but in order to really fall in love with Asa and his story it is best to read the series in order. Once again this book had great world building and a great group of side characters. It's a very supportive team and unlike other sports books where there is lots of discrimination, there is none ig that here.

I have been waiting for Asa's story and it did not disappoint. This book was very easy to read. Despite it being a little lengthy, I couldn't put it down. This story was sweet and at times emotional. There is no relationship angst but a bit of third party drama. This was low heat and I would have liked a bit more but I absolutely loved this story. I personally felt there was alot of focus on plays/sports and would have preferred more focus on the characters. That way it also could have shortened the book a bit. Not letting that affect my rating as that is just me not being a sports fan. Despite the length, it didn't feel draggy at all. I loved that although the 2 MCs had a previous relationship, this was still a slow burn and Scott had to really work for Asa's forgiveness. These 2 men were perfect for each other and has wonderful chemistry. Im looking forward to the next book.

The narrator did a great job with this performance. He has a pleasant reading voice and kept a good pace. He expressed all the emotions wonderfully. He gave all the characters, not just the 2 MCs, distinct voices that suited them well and made it easy to follow the story. It was a great listening experience and the narrator really brought the story to life.
