Summary
Bo Lowery and her 10-year-old son have hunted the woods surrounding their Alaskan home for as long as Caleb can remember. What they don't eat themselves, they sell to local businesses, using every part of the animal. Disgusted by the wolf cull, pop megastar Rainey Layne and her bodyguard Darius travel to Bo's small town to join a growing group of animal activists.
After Bo and Rainey clash during the protest, Rainey pulls mother and son headfirst into her manic, self-absorbed world when she crashes her car on their land. Soon, she finds herself their unwilling guest. But in the age of instant communication, celebrities can't just disappear without the whole world demanding them found.
In a violent showdown between hunter and activist, tensions within the Lowery household are dragged into the light. Both women harbor dark secrets. But Rainey Layne will learn just how far a mother pushed to the edge will go to protect her child.

A book for trump voters
I don't really know of the authors political stances, but the main characters can be entirely and accurately summarised as anti-woke. I really despise such characters, and the story seems to paint her in quite the favourable light.
TLDR: If you voted for trump twice, you'll love this book. Otherwise you won't.
Stuff that rubbed me the wrong way:
- The super cliche pop star. Way too cliché. Absolutely the stereotype of a woke person from a far-right-wingers point of view. Very shallow, even with the attempt of a back story. She doesn't "understand" life and how people need to make sacrifices. And she's like that because of paternal abuse.
- The home-schooled kid, in the middle of the wilderness, who spends a lot of time outdoors, who excels at math? The extreme right have been fighting against every basic thing in schools, but hom-schooling? Obviously much better than education received from a professional who went to university to learn how to teach!!
- The kid. WAY too shallow character. Lots of lost opportunity to go in many directions. It's like the entire reason he exists is to give the mother a reason to murder.
The performance was quite good though.
I quite liked other books of the author. The political tones in the book definitely are a huge turn-off for me.

Great Story
This is a gripping listen from start to finish, Bo and hers son Kaleb are eaking out a living in their isolated home when circumstances mean that a pop star with a passion for protecting animals crosses their path. What lengths a mother will go to to protect her son and home life keep the listener on the edge of their seat. The narration is spot on with plenty of enthusiasm from Rebecca Ortese as she brings the whole story to life. Highly recommended.
I was kindly given a copy of the book from FAB and leave this honest review.
