Interesting concept and characters and a brilliant setting. Well written. But there are real problems with this audiobook.

Cooper Mortlock who reads Dominic’s chapters is so relentlessly melodramatic and breathy and OOT that it constantly pulled me out of the story and also made the relationships less believable. Scenes that may have had tension (sexual or otherwise) didn’t work because of his read. I honestly can’t believe this performance got by a director and a producer. It should be re-recorded. Just his performance. The other performances were well done.

If you’re like me and go back and forth between reading books and listening to audiobooks - add this one to the reading list and avoid the audiobook.

This story has great twists in it and unexpected character developments. The background environment of the research centre and seed vault is rich and moody, adding an interesting layer to the narrative

Wow. This book was truly outstanding. Stunningly beautiful, heartbreaking, compelling. I feel bereft, reaching the end genuinely felt like a bereavement.

Possibly the best book I've ever read and 5 stars doesn't feel like it's nearly enough.

I loved every character. I loved the setting. the humanity, emotion. The whales nearly broke me. The Wombats too.

Part unexpected love story, not only human love but our love and connection with nature, part disaster story.

A book that will stay with me for a very long time.

This is a truly outstanding book from an exceptional author.
