Summary

Nowhere is safe when the gods are wicked.

Since the beginning of times, there has always been two sides: Norms and Idols. But never have the scales been so unbalanced as they are today.

I'm a Norm, which means I grew up in fear of the Idols and their godly powers. And now, I'm going to be surrounded by them, day and night. I've been offered a place at the prestigious Gifted Academy, an opportunity very few Norms get.

To survive, I must become invisible. But my hope to get through the academy unscathed goes down the drain when the most powerful boys in school set their eyes on me.

They hate me simply because I'm a Norm. If they knew who I truly am, they'd tear me apart limb by limb. But I'm done cowering away from Idols. It's time for the Norms to fight back, and it all starts with me.

Contains mature themes.

Terrible

I don't think this author understands how to write an ending. You have to wrap up at least this books open ended plot lines before writing in a suspenseful cliffhanger that sojourns into the continuation of the story in the next book. This just felt like I was cheated out of a story I paid for. Besides that, the dialogue was simple and boring. The story has a decent premise that will keep you interested enough to keep going. But there's really not very much angst happening between the main characters...you kinda just end up hating them all. Their pull to each other doesn't make sense. As far as the narration goes...both actors had lackluster performances that didn't carry the right inflection. I also found the man's accent to be very "valley" and borderline obnoxious. There was no distinguishing between any of the Male leads in tone so you get confused about who is even speaking. Not moving forward in the series.

Worst male narrator on Audible

Please look up the video, "BurgerKing Foot Lettuce" and you will understand how absolutely awful this narrator is. I'm hoping he doesn't get paid for such a god awful preformance.

story is wonderful, narrators not so much

strong female mc, diverse and interesting boys, beautiful world creation. still enjoyable on reread, I think this is my third time :) only complaint is the male narrator does the boys no justice and is atrocious at female voices. the two narrators present characters in ways that do not match.

worst male narrator

the storyline and writing seemed promising and the female narrator was good. I finally had to abandon the book, however, due to the grating voice of the male narrator. the inflections in his voice and reading style made it impossible to continue

Very good book and audiobook

I really enjoyed listening to this book. I purchased the kindle version and the audio version so that I could listen when I couldn’t read, and read when I couldn’t listen. Michelle Hercules is an excellent writer and I can’t wait to read more of her books. I simply couldn’t put this one down. It took some time for me to get used to Alex Kydd’s reading style as it is a bit strange and offputting but I really enjoyed Madeleine Dauer’s performance. Overall I definitely recommend everyone read or listen to this series because you will really enjoy it!

everything was good except the male narrator. I absolutely can not stand his beach boy bro way of speaking. almost stopped listening just because of it.

Good story/ bad narration

I really enjoyed the story, but I did not like the reader. I can usually get into the book no matter who reads it but this one was challenging.

Slow start, but got better!

I found this book very slow until about half way through. I didn't really find myself captured in the story until the end when the romance started to spark. The second and third books are not yet available on audible, but i will most likely get them when they come out. Overall: 3 , has potential. i have a feeling the next books will be better. Fantasy: 4. All the boys have different powers, but the main character doesn't have any. Romance: 2. The sexual tension is very limited. They all fight their attraction to each other and do stupid things. Humor: 2. I normally really like the RH genera due to the comedy of having multiple characters. But this one fell flat on the humor scale Narrator:3. Female was good. The male almost ruined the book. Literally every male character sounded the same and his impression of female voices was the worst. Read the next book: yes, i want to see what happens next in their story. Action: 3. More of a drama in the beginning, but a little more action towards the end.
