When Elliot Ward inherits a quiet marina on the shores of Lake Ontario, he expects long days repairing docks and peaceful evenings watching the water settle into the harbor.
Instead he finds something hidden inside the office of the previous owner.
A notebook.
A pattern.
A route moving silently across the lake.
At first the signs are subtle. A boat arriving too late at night. A familiar face watching from the docks. Crates that appear and disappear without explanation.
Then a man named Ortega arrives and begins asking questions about the harbor.
The more Elliot learns, the more he realizes the marina was never just a marina. It is a waypoint in a system that has been moving across the lake for years.
And now the current is changing.
As the crossings grow larger and the pressure builds, Elliot must decide whether to destroy the system moving through his harbor… or become the one person capable of controlling it.
Because once you understand the current, there is no going back.

The narration was a real highlight for me. She has such a lovely warm accent and a wonderfully natural storytelling style that made this incredibly easy to settle into and listen to. Her voice brings a real warmth and character to the audiobook while still allowing the tension and darker moments of the story to come through beautifully.
A thoroughly enjoyable listen and a narrator I’d happily listen to again.
Atmospheric and beautifully narrated

I was impressed by the authors detailed observations from the beginning and descriptions with some good use of evocative metaphors sprinkled throughout the book. The book presents a really interesting moral dilemma and it unfolds and unpacks this gradually as the chapters come and go.
I’ve not given the story a great score as for me it was a little slow paced and I look for more action. The theme gives scope for a greater pull on the jeopardy of the situation, which could have increased the pace. I also must confess that I was looking for a very different ending and was left a bit disappointed by that. Having said that, looking back, retrospectively, the book does prepare you for this, and sadly, that’s probably more reflective of what is likely to happen in the reality.
A waterside side story with deep reflections
