Story
Emma didn't know how long he hid, silent and unmoving, in the large Victorian wardrobe to the side of her single bed. She didn't know how long he peered out, salivating and drooling, between the two heavy dark oak doors, and watched, mesmerized, as she slowly drifted into fitful sleep. She didn't know what time he pushed the doors open and crept towards her in the drab grey darkness of the night.

Hard hitting subject, incredible story
If you could sum up White Is the Coldest Colour in three words, what would they be?
Freightening, Shocking, Upsetting
Who was your favorite character and why?
From a purely narative point of view the Doctor would be my favourite. As he's the primary character he stands out and has incredible depth. However, his wife Cynthia becomes the dark horse of this story, finding me cheering her on during the last chapter.
What about Jake Urry’s performance did you like?
Jake's inflections whilst speaking as the Doctor convey this man's brutal nature. Spot on!
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
When the ring calls your name.
Any additional comments?
A gripping book with a subject matter I was initially very wary of. Powerful scenes from the first chapter are shocking and not for sensitive individuals. However, beyond that the narrative allows the listener to delve into the psyche of an utterly deranged and incredibly cruel man. A classic battle between police investigation and the criminal ensues, with a highly developed plot and a twist at the end that left me screaming in delight.
Superb text, narrated beautifully and sensitively by Jake Urry.

Appallingly realistic.
Where does White Is the Coldest Colour rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is my first Audible book and I'm extremely impressed. I've listened to audiobooks in other forms before, but White is the Coldest Colour was of exceptional quality
Who was your favorite character and why?
My favorite character is Dr. Galbraith - not because I like him, but because he's so skillfully constructed that I hated him to the very core. I don't think I ever loathed a character so much in any book I've ever read.
What about Jake Urry’s performance did you like?
Jake Urry's voice was perfect for this dark and disturbing story. He did an excellent job with a subject most people would cringe to read aloud.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, absolutely. I became fully immersed in the story.
Any additional comments?
The audiobook format makes this story doubly chilling. I highly recommend it!

Great Debut - Dark, just how I like my books!
Where does White Is the Coldest Colour rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
White Is the Coldest Colour is a debut novel by John Nicholl and ranks amongst the highest in terms of story telling. His characters are well developed and very early on you come to hate the protagonist - he is an arrogant, evil bastard who thinks he can not be touched; much like others who we now know in real life are paedophiles.
What did you like best about this story?
Although the subject matter is horrible, John Nicholl, who is a former child protection officer with social services, clearly draws on his experiences in dealing with vulnerable children and this transfers extremely well into the story. It is dark, disturbing and sometimes difficult to read, but at the same time draws you in and you want to see justice done. I loved it!
What about Jake Urry’s performance did you like?
I was given a free copy of this by Jake Urry in exchange for an honest review, and I have to say Jake Urry delivered a stunning performance. He brought the book to life and, in particular, his voice sounded how I would imagine Dr David Galbraith to sound. I have already downloaded another book narrated by Jake.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
This book brought all sorts of emotions to the fore; anger, sadness, distress - all the requirements of a dark, psychological novel.
Any additional comments?
It is difficult to believe that this is John's first novel, and I certainly look forward to reading more from him, particularly his next novel 'When Evil Calls Your Name' which is out now and is Book 2 of the Dr Galbraith books.

Gripping story and excellent narration.
Wow! I found myself entranced from beginning to end. This story was so well written. You know it's good when you can imagine it all. The narration was excellent, especially the Welsh accents and manner of speaking. I am in my lounge and literally giving Jake Urry a standing ovation. (My kids are looking at me like I'm nuts, but hey, you deserve it Jake!) This is my first John Nicholl experience and I have to say I am impressed. Kudos to you Mr. Nicholl for nailing the pathological behaviour and writing in a way that allowed me to see the internal thought processes of the characters. I am officially a fan. Now, if you will please excuse me, I need to add to my John Nicholl collection so I can binge. ;)

Hang on while I get my breath back!
OMG this is a brilliant read. I can't believe I haven't come across John Nicholl before & the narrator Jake Urry, they are a match made in heaven. I actually felt I was there, although I'm not sure what part I was playing. It kept my attention completely, even though I listened to the entire book in one session. Fast paced with believable characters, not too graphic given the topic. A must listen.

Spine chilling thriller
What did you like most about White Is the Coldest Colour?
It's a fantastically written story. John Nicholl's experience in child protection and the police really comes through. It's incredibly realistic.
What other book might you compare White Is the Coldest Colour to, and why?
I don't usually read thrillers, I enjoy real life stories. This book bridges the gap.
What does Jake Urry bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
He doesn't just read it, he acts.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It made me feel sick at times, tearful at others. It got the adrenaline going that for sure.

Horrifically gripping from the outset.
What the author portrays is a view of what can only be described as 'haunting' in this novel the author has managed to capture depravity at its worst, human beings at their worst, whilst providing insight into the legal obstacles and challenges faced in bringing justice for all involved. The narrator brings to life the full horror with amazing brevity!

It's so good because it's so bad!
What made the experience of listening to White Is the Coldest Colour the most enjoyable?
If I shut my eyes, I was away in the literary world, consumed by the story. (Also, I can cook the tea and still listen).
What other book might you compare White Is the Coldest Colour to, and why?
I think Tess Gerritsen's The Surgeon or The Apprentice or Mo Hayder's Birdman. They all had a similar effect on me. A chain of events that are doomed to happen and there doesn't appear to be any escape.
What about Jake Urry’s performance did you like?
Excellent narrative, without monotone listening, voice reminded me of Pierce Brosnan actually.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
The emotional response I felt from this book was a lot of anxious tension, worrying about what was going to happen and the screeching of 'No, don't do that!' I was very angry to be disturbed from this book as I needed a positive police outcome quickly!
Any additional comments?
Excellent book. This is a heavy story dealing with various abuses towards children and some toward adults. Not all abuse is verbalised, but instead nudged at and left for the imagination. If you can keep this under control in your head, it's a cracking read. 5*.

Oh my God
This is true psychological thriller at its best. The author has to have a dark imagination to come up with this kind of story. And the narrator his voice does justice to the story. At times while listening I felt like I was in the story. Are there really people like this in our world? I wasn't sure if this was based on a true story so had to research it. No it is fiction that comes from the mind of a brilliant author.
I received this free of charge for an honest review.

Tale of an enraging, engaging, eloquint sociopath.
If you could sum up White Is the Coldest Colour in three words, what would they be?
The people who appear to "have it all" can be the nightmare of your dreams ... and draw you into the darkest reality of daylight. 3 words? Embrace your soul.
What was one of the most memorable moments of White Is the Coldest Colour?
This entire book was memorable and one I will never forget.
Cynthia Galbraith's sequel in Book 2 will be my next review -
Have you listened to any of Jake Urry’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
not yet ... "my dear"
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Moment by moment traveling through a dark, sinister tunnel - and finding a wee bit of light - at last!
Any additional comments?
Yes I am expecting CYNTHIA'S daughter's, to be released forthcoming Book 3 and 4! PLEASE! Their perspective, I'm sure, will add even more dimension to this series.

This is very dark and disturbing book! To think this could be actually going on. This doctor not only abuses children but his family. I recommend this scary book for thriller fans the last 2 hours were the best. White Is the Coldest Colour: Dr. David Galbraith,
“This audiobook was given by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom.”
This psychological thriller deals with a respected child psychologist, who just happens to head a secret pedophile ring. Will his latest patient become a victim? The story is fast past and very gripping. The author’s profession in law enforcement and child protective services adds a measure of depth that will keep the listener on the edge of their seat too the very end.
The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed.

HOLY CRAP
Any additional comments?
This is the best book I've listened to for as long as I can remember. Usually I only listen to books when I'm doing dishes or laundry, etc. but while listening to this one, I had to at times stop what I was doing and sit down because it was so intense, compelling and well written. "White Is the Coldest Colour: Dr. David Galbraith, Book 1" is absolutely fantastic. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys horror or thriller/murder mystery genre stories. (Note: I would not recommend this to anyone who is sensitive to child abuse.) Jake Urry is probably my favorite narrator but he really outdoes himself on this one - his performance is flawless. 10/10

Gripping Psychological Thriller! A Must Read.
wow, right into the first chapter this starts. it turned my stomach because it just seemed so real, like it could happen. and I know these things happen. I had to ask myself if i would be able to listen to this book or not… Or would it bring up somethings from my past, I would rather keep in the past. I decided to give it until chapter 3 to see if i could handle this.
I am very glad i stuck with it. It was chilling, creepy, in a real life monsters kind of way…
I wasn’t sure how this book would go, but i can not stress enough, its a great book, one that will stay with you for a while.
I love how the writer made me hate the Dr. but, keep me interested about him. and i wanted to kick his butt, and I hated being able to hear what he thought, he was written very well.
the narrator did an excellent job bringing this story to life!

Has Everything A Psychological Thriller Should!
What made the experience of listening to White Is the Coldest Colour the most enjoyable?
The whole story kept me on the edge of my seat. The bad guy is so evil and cunning. The content is graphic and hard to listen to since its about child sexual abusive but as a parent, it gave me insight into the way these scum bags think. Great book, I love this author. His books are everything a psychological thriller should be. The inner dialogue of the killer is demented, disturbing. The inner dialogue of the mother had me yelling, "listen to your instincts" !!
What was one of the most memorable moments of White Is the Coldest Colour?
The whole book kept me glued. I listened to the whle thing in one sitting.
Which scene was your favorite?
I wouldn't call this my favorite moment but certainly myt most tense was the break-in. I won't say anything more than that.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I don't want to give anything away. All I'll say is people should trust their intuition more.
