About this listen
I thought I’d be miserable planning my ex’s wedding, but a rugged cowboy turned distiller knows just how to relieve the pressure.
Coming home to Huckleberry Springs, Montana, is hard enough. Begging my family for a job because I’m blacklisted up and down the West Coast? That’s tough. Patching up a broken heart after my cheating ex made me a spectacle? Stinks so bad. Drunkenly puking on Durban Hennessy, the hottest cowboy to ever work my daddy’s ranch? That’s just classic Campbell Hawthorne.
But even Durban doesn’t blame me much for that last one, because my first job as Daddy’s event coordinator? Planning my cousin’s wedding to my cheating ex at the family guest ranch. Because if I don’t, my uncle won’t sign over his share of the business.
The only bright spot? Durban is now part owner in the local distillery, and while he doesn’t do drama, distractions, or hot messes that just threw up on his boots, he’s not averse to saving damsels in distress. Once a ranch hand and now a distiller with a superiority complex, he’ll provide wet bar service throughout the wedding festivities—and some steamy, no-strings stress relief between events.
In return, I’ll help him patch up his own ego after getting dumped by his long-distance girlfriend. But when impromptu hookups turn into sleepovers that include intimate pillow talk, I know I’m in trouble. Because our whiskey bargain is set to end when the bride says I do.

After moving back home, Campbell is now the new event planner for her family’s guest ranch. However, things don’t go smooth sailing when the first event she’s set to plan is her ex-finace and ex-bestie’s wedding! Yikes! If that wasn’t bad enough, if she doesn’t do a good job/if the event isn’t successful, her uncle refuses to sign over the ranch. So the stakes are even higher! To help her get through all the tough situations she’s having to go through with planning this event, she’s helped by Durban, a former cowboy of her dad. And he helps her in more ways than one. 😏 Meanwhile, Durban finds himself single again following the ending of his 4-year long distance relationship.
This was such a fun and entertaining read. I really enjoyed soo much about it! Their initial “whiskey bargain” - a deal that was supposed to be nothing more than no-strings, stress relief - changes and evolves into such a beautiful relationship and bond. Their chemistry really jumped out of the page. Also, I loved how even though these two are opposites, they also had certain things that they both could relate to; most notably, both of their previous relationships ending in betrayal. It really made me not only root for them to get their happy ending, but also it made their initial connection even more believable. The author, Walker Rose, really did a great job of striking the right balance of tension, spiciness, banter and emotional payoff. This is my first book by this author, but it certainly won’t be my last!
If you’re in the mood for a small-town, western, age-gap romance, definitely add this to your list! I’m sure you won’t be disappointed!
Narrated in duet by Marissa Clay and Will Speare. Clay was wonderful as Campbell. And Speare was also wonderful portraying the gruff and grumpy Durban. They both aided in bringing this story to life!

Durban is a partner in the distillery that will be handling the wedding who has a difficult romantic past of his own. When he catches Campbell during a vulnerable moment it gives him a glimpse into who she really is and not only is he intrigued but he also offers an arrangement that will allow them both to pursue the chemistry between them.
The interactions between them are humorous and hot as Durban provides the understanding and support that Campbell didn’t know she needed and shows her that breaking up with her ex is the best thing that could have happened to either one of them. Will Speare brings out the gruff side of Durban while Marissa Clay brings out the feisty side of Campbell and the interactions between them were seamless.

Campbell and Durban have this electric, soul-deep chemistry that honestly just jumped out of my headphones. I was totally captivated by the way they balanced the tender, healing moments with that undeniable, simmering heat. 🔥 It’s the kind of story that makes you want to pack your bags and move to a Montana ranch immediately! 🥺
The narration by Marissa Clay and Will Speare was next level. They breathed so much life into Campbell and Durban; you could practically feel the tension and the love in every word. Will Speare’s cowboy drawl is absolutely everything! 🎤🎧
A total must-listen for anyone who loves heart-melting romance and a rugged hero you'll wish was yours! 🙌🥃
