Summary

Sidney, isolated and tormented, on her own...

Months after bringing down the last mark on the Black Slate, Sidney finds herself more isolated than ever. Buried in paperwork at the FBI, her feelings about the Deep Black operation begin to fester. Just when she’s about to lose it, Section Chief Ted Howard intervenes.

A butcher on the loose...

The Black Slate has another assignment, but there’s a problem: John Smoke is nowhere to be found. Enter Mason Crow, the next name on the Slate. The file indicates that the man is an international butcher and has now taken his brutality to DC. Sid must find him, but will she be able to do it on her own?

A chain of chaos...

A mysterious reporter, Russ Davenport, tracks Sid down with some vital information, only to be shot down in the streets. A fire ravages Allison’s and Megan’s apartment building, and Sid is faced with identifying the charred bodies found inside.

With her life quickly turning upside down, Sid finds herself in a labyrinth of new supernatural horrors she never before imagined. Will Smoke be there for Sidney, or will she have to be there for him?

Entertaining

Lots of action and good fight scenes. I really wished agent Shaw had not ended things like she did, it will likely only complicate things later on. The narrator did a fantastic job. I received a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Where there’s smoke

Narrator: Holly Adams
I like the storyline and it has an interesting supernatural but even after all she’s seen Sidney is still in denial as though it’s all new to her, she is supposed to be ex military and a top FBI agent but she’s winey, stroppy and indecisive in combat situations.
The overall premise of this story is a good one, bounty hunter, FBI shadow op and some unusual supernaturals all make for a good series but unfortunately the main character’s unlikability was initially distracting me from the story on this one but it did improve significantly during the latter part when she actually started working with Smoke rather than against him all the time.
The narrator again does a good job at bringing the characters to life.

"Monsters are real. Avoid the Slate."

After an impatient wait to get back to work on something she considers important, Sidney is finally reunited with Smoke as she goes in pursuit of whoever took her sisfer, Alison, and little Megan. This is book three in the Supernatural Bounty Hunter series. Still annoyingly self preoccupied, Sid continues to be less than likable, but the story is a fun fantasy, short, and well performed by Holly Adams who adds character and enthusiastic sound effects to her reading.
