I listened to this book before starting the Nephilim trilogy, in order to get a sense of the source material Godawa draws from. Whether or not you plan to read any of his fictional works, this book offers a fascinating glimpse into the cultural worldview of the biblical writers—and it will almost certainly surprise you.

As a screenwriter and film producer creating Christian content, I’m deeply committed to avoiding dogma in my work. I believe we should seek to understand what the Bible actually says, rather than shaping it to fit our preconceptions.

As an avid follower of Dr. Michael S. Heiser—an expert in the Hebrew Bible and ancient Semitic languages—I found that Godawa in the same manner provides a solid and thought-provoking introduction to the biblical landscape and its surrounding cultural context.

That said, if you’re content with a sanitized or superficial reading of Scripture and prefer to avoid challenging new perspectives, this eye-opener may not be for you.
I recommend this book for all who want to get a more intimate relation to the surrounding biblical culture.
