What Tangled Webs is a dark and twisty collection of suspenseful storytelling that leans into psychological horror and unsettling atmosphere. Dillard explores how lies, secrets, and the masks people wear can spiral into dangerous territory. The prose is straightforward and accessible, often building dread through subtle tension rather than outright gore.

I think the author ought to consult a professional psychiatrist as the scenes described are truly nasty and unpleasant. I understand writing a book to shock, but this takes it to extremes. The author seems to be trying to be as horrifying and stomach turning as possible, and succeeds. As for the narration, ok, but scenes/stories seem to run straight into each other with no break, which can get very confusing. Also the choice of a British narrator for an american story is a bit odd, and the narrator should learn american pronunciations - eg ZZ top is pronounced zeezee top, not zed zed top!
Not recommended.

Very unpleasant

Just like many other collections of short stories , certain stories stood out more than the others. I have to admit I enjoyed the shorter stories at the start of the book, the last longer story seemed to drag out longer than it needed to.

I would say the majority of the stories are on the more extreme side of the spectrum, filled with a lot of disturbing subject matter, so if that isn’t for you then maybe give this one a miss. If like me on the other hand that’s what you are looking for, then you have found a good selection of stories to keep you entertained for a few hours.

The narrator did a great job at breathing life into the stories and portraying the emotions of all the characters involved, which helped me get through the stories that I didn’t enjoy as much as the others.

Some very twisted tales.
