About this listen

What is at the core of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict? What does justice demand of us in this conflict? This audiobook clarifies an intimidatingly complex issue - and upends conventional views about America’s stake in it.

In this audiobook, Elan Journo explains the essential nature of the conflict and what has fueled it for so long. What justice demands, he shows, is that we evaluate both adversaries - and America's approach to the conflict - according to a universal moral ideal: individual liberty. From that secular moral framework, the audiobook analyzes the conflict, examines major Palestinian grievances and Israel's character as a nation, and explains what's at stake for everyone who values human life, freedom, and progress.

What Justice Demands shows us why America should be strongly supportive of freedom and freedom-seekers - but in this conflict and across the Middle East, it hasn't been, much to our detriment.

Whilst the author obviously has a bias in favour of Israel, the information and point of view is very interesting and most of the arguments seem sound and well-reasoned.
As students at a leftist anti-apartheid university in South Africa in the 1980s we were all anti-Israel, pro-Palestinian and also pro the ANC.
I have been very disillusioned by both the latter groups and my altruistic liberal values have been challenged by Oct 7.
It is reallt valuable, at this time, to read different perspectives and to make up one's own mind based upon factual info rather than media rhetoric.

This book provided a great overview of the situation and helped to evaluate the ongoing conflict. I would definitely recommend it.
The audiobook was also good to listen to.

Great overview and evaluation

An excellent objective history of the lead up to, beginning and recent history of Israel and how the surrounding countries have acted (and why). Philosophically and morally consistent, it presents the case for supporting Israel but also does not refrain from highlighting specific aspects in which Israel is in the wrong.

A Must Read
