Summary

THE DEBUT NOVEL FROM THE BESTSELLING AND AWARD-WINNING COMEDIAN, WRITER AND ACTOR SARA PASCOE

'Moving and bittersweet and clever . . . I love it.' EMMA JANE UNSWORTH

'Hilarious and heartbreaking at every sentence.' CARIAD LLOYD

'Quietly profound and laughing-in-public funny.' CAITLIN MORAN

'A tragicomic masterpiece.' DAISY BUCHANAN

I hope since our chat he thinks I'm normal . . . I told him that I was several times.

Deep in Essex and her own thoughts, Sophie had a feeling something was going to happen and then it did. Chris has entered the pub and re-entered her life. Just as she's finally stopped thinking about him. Now Sophie has a chance at creating a happier ending and paying off her emotional debts (if not her financial ones). All she has to do is act exactly like a normal person and not say any of her inner monologue out loud. If she can suppress her light paranoia and pathological lying, maybe she'll even end up getting the guy she wants?

Refreshingly Honest

Sophie is somebody I’d like to be friends with. Satisfying ending. That this was read by Sara was an absolute treat.

Well-written depiction of a mundane dislikeable character

I think I'm going to have to stop at Chapter 33. I didn't know Sara Pascoe, she looks funny. And she writes well, the narrative is quirky and observant. But I got bored from the mundanity of Sophie's small mind and selfishness. She came across as a dislikeable and undeveloped waste-of-space and then I read others' reviews saying the story didn't get anywhere, so I'm moving on.

Takes time to get into it but a great fun book

I downloaded this as I am a big fan of Sara, at the start of the book I wasnt so sure on the story thinking it would be too boring but I actually really came to love Sophie and Sara's narration was brilliant, added a whole other layer to the character. You really feel like you are in Sohpies head.

Interesting visit to Sophie’s head

If you wonder what other people are thinking, maybe why they do the things they do or want a little break from your own thoughts/feeling/desires this is an interesting trip to another persons life. Enjoyable listen.

Great

A really enjoyable easy listening book. I enjoyed the narration by the author and was too excited to know the exact little chef come sex shop on the a12 that was referenced.

Weirdo

I chuckled throughout this book and was thoroughly absorbed into Sophie's internal world.

I was particularly impressed with the way growth was shown through the narrative, which gave it more of a coming-of-age vibe than romance.

Enjoyable and funny

I enjoyed this book even though it was quite blanket times. Great to hear Sarah reading it too and so of course the performance was great. Lots of humour too.

Reality of life

Really enjoyed this book. Bit of a journey, at first it does feel incredibly bleak. But I really felt for Sophie throughout.

Quirky and so much fun

I absolutely loved this book and having it read by the author was like being inside Sophie's head. it's raw and funny and so, so real.

Worryingly relatable

I am a bit worried how much I related to some of this given the title… loved it though, glad my life isn’t quite as complicated as the main characters.
I’m not sure who told Sarah Pascoe not to write a book involving murder but I would certainly love to read that!
