Astonishingly, even though these stories are loosely linked around the same circle of friends in Derbyshire, they’re not quite in chronological order which, if you were reading them independently, as published, probably wouldn’t matter but, as a box set, they are harder to mentally grasp, when reading them one after the other.

That said, all of the male leads are totally ridiculous! No redeeming qualities. Richard comes across as bipolar, because he’s totally insensitive badass in every one of the 3 stories that he’s a supporting character in, but supportive, caring and honourable in his own story! There’s probably a lesson to be learned in that, but it doesn’t make him endearing.

Then the women: they’re all supposed to be strong “independent thinkers”, but they come across as stubborn, petulant little girls. (They’re all 18/19 so I’m sure that that’s a factor).

There wasn’t one story that made me feel good about it in its entirety. It passed the time, but I would never reread (listen) it.

The narrator was good and kept the narrative flowing.

Great historical romances

Easy listening, but I didn't like the swearing in one book, there was a tiny amount of incorrect language which should have been edited. However, I did enjoy the series very much.

Good collection

Loved the story and the way it was Narrated.
Having listened to the collection, I highly recommend. All four books can be stand alone, but they are masterfully intertwind which I loved.

The Narrator was Outstanding.

It was a good collection of books for BBC a single credit but it’s quite smutish and characters seem to all have huge members! For once I’d like to hear of a lord who has got an average size riding crop! Would prefer more of the story around the kids and family dynamic to the romping but yeah it was ok!
